I should be able to download my PC games directly from Steam’s website. The Steam Client, aka their fucking app, is slow as fuck. My internet speed is nearly 1 gbps. Everything else on my computer is running great. Steam? It makes a snail look like it’s speeding.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam yesterday, then tried downloading one of my games, Civ VI. Day prior, it had taken an hour for the game to fucking launch. WTF!?! It took nearly another hour to start up a new game, but once I was playing, it was fine. Yesterday, I tried launching it again, after removing all the mods. It made no difference. I cancelled the game, then uninstalled it and Steam.
When I downloaded Steam again, it took nearly an hour for all the updates to install. Then, within the steam client, moving from one page to another resulted in it blacking out while waiting for the page to load. Then scrolling was slow af. I cannot find any reason why it’s doing this. I tried downloading Civ VI again. After an hour, it was only at 37% downloaded. Again, my internet connection is outstanding at 1 gbps.
Is anyone else having this problem? I refuse to update Windows because a few months ago, an update bricked several computers. Moving or deleting large files resulted in killing your computer. A more recent update resulted in computers getting stuck in a reboot cycle, destroying several. I recently learned Windows is using AI to make the updates. Fuck that. My computer is only about a year old. I cannot afford a new one, and in this day and age, not having a computer is not a viable option.
If you have any suggestions for fixing the Steam Client, let me know. I’ve already sent a support ticket through, but there’s really no way to tell if they can or will help me.
I paid for my games. I should not have to use the Steam launcher to play them.
