My radio show script in tribute to Mani for tonight is already 9 minutes long. I’m not even done yet!

Update: 12 mins.

Ozzy episode is cursed. This man will not let me close the book on him. Every time I’ve tried to air my episode with a tribute to him I somehow miss the deadline. This has happened 3 weeks straight. The only show in the last MONTH I have not missed since Ozzy died was the one week (last week) I postponed my tribute show because I had to prioritise Osheaga coverage for the sake of my media pass.

I give up. I’ll be releasing the show as a podcast only (music cut out and significantly shorter), the man refuses to be goodbye’d, and fair enough.

Next week is Reading coverage + the Oasis dates so I’m not going to attempt it again. The power of the man

This week’s show!! Got some cool new releases + 50 years since the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album, new Muse single, new releases from Olivia Dean, Kneecap, Wunderhorse, Gulp (Super Furry Animals’ Guto Pryce and his partner’s beautiful musical project), new Sprints and a band everyone needs to be checking out called Car Boot Sale. Africa Express also return, and I’ve got a couple of these songs as recordings from Glastonbury so that’s gonna be fun.

playing some Oasis, Bob Vylan, other Glasto performances and have an unrelated guest making new music on tonight. Took me ages to work out this show, so I hope it’s good!

It’s been so crazy over the last few days seeing who the actual people in positions that run the music industry are. I’ve been learning what the positions even are, what specific roles people perform, what they have done in the past, what their own career trajectories have been. It’s been pretty eye opening to see it at all, because the music industry can be such an opaque blob of a thing that nobody is able to really figure out. To see people and careers, careers that are long term and decades in the making feels oddly reassuring.

The stupidest thought I have ever had was that I didn’t realise there was… still a music industry, if you know what I mean. I thought the industry only existed within the spheres of pop music and established artists. Because we have seen smaller artists so completely abandoned by the industry globally, and with all the disheartening tales of really good musicians and bands not even being looked at, passed over for the small issue of not having 2 million followers on TikTok or whatever, that was effectively a dead industry to me. Industry that doesn’t have artist development is static.

And now there are names and roles and faces, and occasionally even handshakes. Fascinating to me and baffling. What do I do with this information.

[temporary post]

In case any of you are bored tonight and want to join me, I’m on radio playing some brand new bangers on air for an hour and a half! I don’t usually post radio stuff on here because I don’t want to make it too easy for people to draw connections between me IRL and me shitposting on tumblr, so I will probably delete it later, but this week’s show is a lot more guitar and rock heavy than it has been in recent weeks, and I feel I’ve got a good mix of folks you know and stuff that will be completely new to you but you’ll still enjoy.

Besides, one of my favourite things in the world is people listening along and messaging me live as the show goes on, it really makes me feel that’s the way radio is meant to be!

So if you need some energetic tunes on in the background/want to hear some of my favourite picks for this week, I’m live in a few hours [link now redacted], so hop along!

playlist preview:

I am fucking loving the new Berwyn album, it is true. also, I dove a little into the scenes on the Channel Islands, Gurnsey and Jersey so that’ll be fun too.
