A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan, where anomalous earthquake activity has already been occurred and very close to the site of the 2011 M9.1 Great Tohoku Earthquake.

A tsunami threat has been issued for Japan and nearby Russia.

Is this perhaps a foreshock for an even bigger earthquake to come?

TWO STRONGS EARTHQUAKE

TSUNAMI ALERT AND EVACUATION GENERATES

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Japan today at 5:03 PM, triggering tsunami warnings in a region still traumatized by the 2011 catastrophe.

The epicenter was located 10 kilometers deep in the Pacific Ocean, off Iwate Prefecture, in the same tectonic zone that generated one of the worst natural disasters in modern Japanese history.

The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded an intensity of 4 on the Shindo scale, prompting the immediate evacuation of more than 6,000 people and the temporary suspension of Shinkansen bullet train services. Ten subsequent aftershocks, including one of magnitude 6.3, indicate continued seismic activity in the region.

Small tsunami waves of up to 20 centimeters were observed in several coastal ports, confirming scientists’ initial fears.

This event demonstrates that the tectonic forces responsible for the 2011 tsunami, which resulted in 18,500 deaths, remain active and unpredictable. The rapid response from authorities, including automated warning systems and enhanced evacuation protocols, reflects lessons learned from the previous tragedy. Japan, located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, continues to face one of the world’s most intense seismic threats, where four major tectonic plates converge in extraordinarily dynamic and potentially devastating geological processes.

16:10, January 1st, 2024, one of the most devastating earthquakes to hit Japan all but wiped the northern portion of the Noto Peninsula off the map. A single earthquake rose the elevation of the land by 2 meters and sent the shore out 200 meters. The impact was the second highest on the Modified Mercalli intensity scale: Extreme (XI), and the highest of the Japan Meteorological Agency’s long-period seismic intensity classification (class 4: the ground rocks more than one meter each direction).

The devastation from that same quake is shown here, from September, 2024.

This video came out in late December, 2024. Wajima as depicted is still in the same state. Last month, a 6.4M earthquake hit the same region, just off shore. It was identified as an aftershock of the January first quake.

It has been almost a year, and Noto has not changed.

BREAKING NEWS: Rice Packs in Panic Buying grips Japan as M7.1 mega-earthquake strikes Kyushu Prefecture

KITAKYUSHU, JAPAN – Japan’s first megaquake, struck off southeastern coast as rice shortages fear in some local supermarkets, malls and groceries, facing an alarming situation. The strong quake, centered in the waters offside the coast of Kyushu, had a Magnitude of 7.1. No major deaths or severe damages reported, with most injuries recorded on Thursday (August 8th, 2024 – Japan local time), according to local Japanese media reports and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The threat of this disastrous quake, coupled with typhoons and a traditional week-long Obon national holiday in Japan, has triggered panic buying of rice. Empty shelves in supermarkets across Japan tells the story. Farmers in some regions, including Kyushu prefecture are harvesting about one week earlier than usual, but the shortages persist without regulation. Hot weather, water scarcity and increased demand from foreign tourists have all contributed to this crisis.

Experts say that the risk was kinda low, as Ministry of Agriculture officials urged people to refrain from excessively hoarding goods, without wasting your own food or being spoiled after purchase, whether physical or delivered online.

Food is more important during these challenging times, when you only as needed in one go, especially served at home or by restaurants to be dined in, despite the mega earthquake striking offside of the Japanese archipelago island.

Rebuild.

March 11th, 2011.
March 11th, 2016.

Five years ago, the entire world was looking at Japan, and the tragic series of events the country was facing. It didn’t take much time before some brought to our attention, the price of such prejudice Nature did on that day, but also the much bigger consequences of the nuclear disaster, when Fukushima started its never-ending and slow self-destruction, as a result of a non-preparation to the waves of a megaquake. Were we thinking of such possibilities? No one would have believed such a combination of possibilities; but it happened.

Fukushima is still today a no-go zone, for a time frame we won’t witness, and that, is not sad. It’s stupid. We need to yell at the face of mankind about it, like we did at Chernobyl back in 1986. Such energy is not clean, it is actually the opposite when we look at the big picture, the big big BIG one, the one a couple of centuries can look at and say, if yes or not, it was worth it.

Price, impact, consequences… what are we to play with landscapes, raw materials and Nature, like there’s no tomorrow?

The Pacific is still contaminated by the leaks of the Daiichi plan. What’s the price of that? Wasn’t the series of nuclear tests conducted by France in 1996 in Moruruoa stupid enough? What will the XX and XXI centuries leave on the face of Earth? Didn’t the Pacific Ocean deserved to be turned into a sanctuary, simply and immediately? Would this idea be a total non-sense? Well, our generation is aware of impacts, and we stand for a Change. Let’s act like we want to erase all footprints, and be consistent on our temporary presence on this planet.

Events of March 2011 could, and can happen again, and it might not be -again- something we thought about.

The nuclear facilities, once stopped in Japan, are running again now. Differently, for sure, but still on the move. Are they safe now? (Fill the blank space here______________________). Explain the big picture to a child, any child, and you’ll get a clear answer on what to do next with Nuclear. Face it.

Rebuild is a constant process. Rebuild is not a metaphor, it’s an action. But mostly, it implies a time to think, and do better. So on that day, which we all remember, let’s take a moment to think, and think again, on what we want this world to be.

Are we doing better, 5 years later?

The Big One

by M. Doherty 12/30/2015 Borrowed Planet Blog

Last night, about 11:30pm I was roused from sleep by an earthquake.  I was born in California so I knew instinctively what to do thanks to my grandmother.  As the Earth calmed and the shaking stopped, I thought about the many earthquakes that the Pacific Northwest has experienced over the years.  The Cascadia subtraction zone has been the location of some of the most exciting seismological research in modern history.  A recent article in The New Yorker spelled out in detail the impact of a mega quake in the Cascade region – leaving no gruesome detail untouched.  Is the Cascadia region prepared for a mega quake in the future?  Or will “The Big One” surpass all previous quakes despite our best preparation?

On the night of December 29, 2015 at 11:39pm, South Vancouver B.C. Experienced an earthquake.  The Natural Resources Canada measured the quake to 4.7 while the U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake measured 4.8.  The epicenter of the quake was located in 19 kilometers northeast of Victoria B.C. The seismic activity was recorded at 42 kilometers deep.  This is not a new phenomena as the Cascade Region has been the site of many earthquakes over the centuries (CBC).

In the 1700s a magnitude 9 quake rippled through the Cascade region from what is now South Vancouver through the Duwamish and Columbia Rivers, down the Washington coastline into California’s redwood forests.  The damage of the quake was so massive that a tidal wave was unleashed on the quake survivors leaving little in its’ path.  The 1700s quake ranks as one of the most massive the Earth has ever seen.  Modern seismic events like the 2004 Indian Ocean quake and tsunami  that killed more than 200,000 people.  The force of the quake made the Earth itself wobble on its’ axis.  Another example is the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  The magnitude 9 quake moved Honshu, an island off the coast of Japan, 8 feet east; and sent a tsunami to the shore of Japan within 20 minutes of the seismic activity subsiding.  The damage to nuclear power plants caused extensive radiation poisoning to the land – something Japan is still dealing with today (Seattle Times).

Should the Pacific Northwest actually experience “The Big One,” what will happen?  This mega quake has the potential to be the biggest and most damaging seismic disaster in the history of the United States.  The Cascadia region is home to a beautiful range of volcanic mountains for hundreds of miles.  The “subduction zone” refers to the area of the planet where one tectonic plate is sliding underneath another – or sub-ducting it.  Tectonic plates (pieces of mantle and crust of the Earth) drift  and rearrange the Earth’s continents and ocean floors.  The Juan de Fuca plate is currently sliding beneath North America but has become wedged tight against it.  The pressure from the Juan de Fuca pressing against North America is causing the Pacific Northwest to move upwards and compress eastwards.  Although the plates are moving very slowly, the land will give way and when it does the North American plate will rebound against the Juan de Fuca plate.  When that happens, either the southern part of the Cascadia subduction zone will give way and the earthquake will reach 8.0 to 8.6 magnitude.  However, if the entire Cascadia subduction zone gives way the result will be a 8.7 to 9.2 magnitude quake.

A quake of that size will cause the northwest edge of North America, from California to Canada  and the entire continental shelf of the Cascades to drop by 6 feet and move 30 to 100 feet west.  Some of the displacement of land will occur on the ocean floor which will in turn lead to a tsunami.  It has been suggested that this mega quake will cause a 700 mile wall of water to make contact with land 15 minutes after the seismic activity stops.  The area of impact will cover Seattle to Salem, Oregon and into California.  In addition to the quake and tsunami activity, the magnitude of the quake has the potential to arouse Washington State’s sleeping giant Mount Rainier – and cause an eruption from the eons old volcano.  It is the potential for volcanic activity that causes seismologists to dub the Pacific Northwest The Ring of Fire: the oceanic seismic activity on one side, the Cascade Mountain Range with its many volcanoes, and the Juan De Fuca plate shifting and banging up against North America, the Cascadia Subduction Zone is prime real estate for seismic disaster (The New Yorker).

The Pacific Northwest has not experienced a major earthquake sine the 1700s.  Due to the potential for seismic activity in the Ring of Fire, the Cascadia subduction zone has been mapped and studied more than most fault lines in the world.  This research allows the cities along the coastline to prepare themselves for the disaster than a mega quake would bring to the region.  However the Pacific Northwest has lagged behind other earthquake prone regions of the world.  Japan rarely sees a week pass without an earthquake of some kind.  California, my state of birth, has seen many, many earthquakes in modern history and has become old hat at the whole business.  The earthquake last night at 11:30pm in Southern Vancouver B.C., Canada was only a 4.8 but it was enough to rouse people from their sleep and cause minor damage.  If a magnitude 9 quake can cause the damage that was done to Japan in 2009, one can only imagine the devastating scene if that same seismic occurrence were to happen in Seattle, Washington.

Last night’s earthquake in South Vancouver is a small taste of the potential mega quake that seismologists have predicted for the Cascade subduction zone.  Spanning from California to Canada, the tectonic plate activity suggests that the Juan de Fuca plate is sliding under North America, leading to seismic activity that threatens not just a magnitude 9 quake, but a tsunami and volcanic activity that will devastate the region.  The extensive study of the Cascade subduction zone by seismologists has allowed for information to flow into the area allowing for preparedness for the region.  However a lack of extensive seismic activity makes preparations slower for the Pacific Northwest than in areas of the world where populations experience regular earthquakes.

There’s supposed to be a devastating earthquake in the Pacific Northwest…..like a tsunami creating earthquake…….nobody knows for sure when it’ll happen but it’s almost 70 years overdue…..I don’t even know what to think. I’ve heard everything west of I 5 will be toast, from Seattle to Sacramento. I’m hoping this is the one time science is wrong 🙏

Is ‘San Andreas’ A Cryptic Warning About What Is Going To Happen In America’s Future?

San Andreas Movie Poster

By Michael Snyder – End of The American Dream

Hollywood has a long history of inserting political messages, social commentaries, subliminal effects and even cryptic warnings about the future into big budget films.  So is someone attempting to use “San Andreas” to tell us something?  For many years, doomsayers have been warning that the “Big One” is going to come along and rip the coastline of…

Mega earthquake dream

I was under a bridge held up by colossal stone pillars. I don’t remember why I was there. The sun was out and all was clear. Just another day. Suddenly the sky split above me, with rolling charcoal clouds that came about so quickly there was no time to contemplate the reason. Out of nowhere the earth was shaking so tremendously I could hear it. The sound was so intense it was painful. So painful there was no way to comprehend. My feet were lifted from the ground and I was holding on ( to something-I don’t remember what) while I was being sucked out from under the bridge, as though it was an F14 Vortex. At the same time something was pulling me away from the suckage. So I was being pulled in two different directions. I don’t know if this dream was prophetic, but it feels like it was. The shaking was so intense I awoke in a sweat, panting, in disbelief.

From the book of Revelation:

Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

Rev 6:16  And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
