Love looks like something. Like a teacher who puts her students first. Like a woman who takes an orphan home. Like an orphan who preaches to the men who tried to kill her. Like a man who died for the world. What is love if it does not look like something?” Heidi Baker

Sometimes, people believe in the world’s twisted definition of love. Love is more than a feeling. It is so much more than that. Love is unnatural. It is something the evil does not understand for he is bounded with what is natural in the world. And because he does not understand, he tries to twist it that’s why we see countless broken people.

Happy Love’s Month, Everyone!

May we not forget what love really means and what it really looks like.

Faith and a Screen Door

It seems that today a lot of people go to church just to check a box. They file in, sit down, stand up when told, and then go home without ever letting the message breathe inside them. And to be fair, it isn’t all their fault. Some pastors preach powerful words on Sunday morning, but the moment the doors close, those words don’t follow them into Monday. Their sermons echo loudly from the pulpit…

Filling the Gap, our calling

When concrete is freshly poured, it is smooth and unbroken, but over time the ground shifts, the weather changes, and cracks begin to form. Left alone those cracks can widen, letting in rain and cold, and eventually weakening the whole foundation. The same is true of people.

Life wears on all of us. Stress, loss, disappointment, and seasons of struggle leave fissures in hearts and…

Hebrews 13:17 says, “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” Thanks for always being willing and able to help your members! When you were unavailable, you sent someone on your behalf, and for that, CTK is deeply grateful. Happy Birthday Emeritus Pastor John Wesley McVicker, Sr.

Where Love Lives # 1

Where Love Lives # 1

“Some stories find you. Some souls need to bleed so they can begin to breathe. Yesterday, I was reminded again why love must always be present when pain is revealed.”

A woman that knows me recognized me at a bus stop. She changed directions in her car to come back for me.

As I was getting out of the car, after arriving at the destination she would drop me off, she began to talk to me. Like many women that talk to me, she told me about a military relative that raped her. Her mother demanded she leave home.

Because the man who raped her was due to retire from the military. If it became known what he did, he would receive jail time, be dishonorably discharged, and lose his retirement.

She was twice hurt. She was hurt once by her abuser. Sjhe was hurt a second time when her mother only wanted to hid it and cover it up.

When the people designed to protect us do not; how is a woman to move beyond the trauma left behind that moment? Now, shed is in her 70s, 50+ years later, it is still lives in her.

After revealing it to me, I saw her energy shift. Something lifted from her. Her face lit up. She smiled as if surprised she had told me and felt released and relieved from what had bound her.

When I got out of the car, my ongoing mission had been managed once again.

Are you in?
Let’s be the ones who listen. Who love. Who help the healing begin.

Someone Is Always Watching

In 2019, I had an experience that made me realize just how much people observe our actions, even when we don’t think anyone is paying attention. It reminded me of the importance of being intentional in how we live and treat others.

That year, I started working in a new area and took the same route every day. At first, it felt strange walking past the same people without acknowledging them, so I…

Christmas and the Sacred: Navigating the Spiritual Tapestry of the Season

Introduction: As winter winds wrap the world in a gentle chill, and festive lights adorn streets and homes, the essence of Christmas beckons us beyond the superficial glitter. In the heart of this season lies a profound spiritual narrative, inviting us to explore the depths of our souls. In this article, we embark on an immersive journey, unravelling the layers of Christmas to discover the timeless and sacred aspects that resonate with the core of our spiritual being.

1. The Divine Birth: A Beacon of Light: At the heart of Christmas, pulsating with spiritual significance, is the sacred narrative of the birth of Jesus Christ. It transcends the realm of a mere historical event, evolving into a timeless symbol of divine light piercing through the encompassing darkness of the world. The imagery of the infant nestled in the humble manger serves as a profound representation—the Light of the World, an embodiment of unparalleled hope and salvation.

As we stand amidst the glow of twinkling lights and gather around intricately crafted nativity scenes, there is an invitation to delve deeper into the rich tapestry of this divine birth. It is not merely a story passed down through generations; it is an allegory that resonates across time and space, calling upon us to reflect on its profound significance.

The symbolism encapsulated in the nativity scene is layered with meaning. The infant Jesus, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger—a feeding trough for animals—transcends the simplicity of the setting. This humility becomes a poignant metaphor, reminding us that the divine can manifest in the most unassuming forms, in the quiet corners of our existence.

The Light of the World, as embodied by the newborn Christ, is a beacon that dispels the shadows of despair and uncertainty. It is a transformative illumination, heralding a new dawn for humanity. As we stand before nativity scenes, it is an opportune moment to pause and ponder: How can we kindle this same light within our own hearts?

The call to emulate this divine light is a spiritual summons. It encourages us to cultivate the qualities of compassion, love, and kindness, mirroring the essence of the sacred narrative. In the flickering candlelight and the gentle hush of Christmas carols, there lies an invitation to nurture the flame of hope within, allowing it to radiate outward.

Each element of the nativity story becomes a guidepost for our spiritual journey. The star that guided the wise men becomes a symbol of inner guidance, urging us to navigate our paths with wisdom and discernment. The shepherds, humbly witnessing the celestial proclamation, exemplify the openness to divine messages in the midst of everyday life.

As we reflect on the divine birth during this Christmas season, let us not merely observe a historical event but engage in a contemplative journey. Let us allow the symbolism to permeate our consciousness, inspiring a profound transformation. May the Light of the World, born anew in our hearts, shine forth in our thoughts, words, and deeds, bringing hope and salvation to a world that yearns for the radiance of the sacred light.

2. Love Incarnate: Embracing the Universal Spirit of Giving: In the symphony of Christmas, love emerges as the resounding melody that permeates the air, a melody that transcends time and culture. Christmas, at its core, is synonymous with love and generosity—a sentiment embodied in the very essence of the season. At the heart of this sentiment is the profound belief that the act of giving is a reflection of the unconditional love said to have manifested in the person of Jesus.

As the festive spirit envelopes communities and homes, the spirit of giving transforms into a sacred practice, transcending mere material exchanges. It becomes a spiritual offering, a tangible expression of the divine love that lies at the heart of Christmas. The act of giving becomes a conduit through which we participate in a universal dance of compassion, mirroring the love that transcends earthly boundaries.

The scope of this generosity extends far beyond the circle of family and friends. It is an invitation to cast the net of our compassion wider, embracing a universal love that knows no distinctions. In the act of giving, we become conduits of divine love, echoing the very essence of Christmas.

The gifts we exchange become symbols not only of our affection for one another but also of our participation in a cosmic exchange of love. Whether a small token or a grand gesture, each gift becomes a manifestation of the spirit of Christmas—an offering of love that carries a resonance far beyond the material realm.

This universal spirit of giving is a transformative force. It encourages us to see beyond the surface of things and recognize the interconnectedness of all life. In the act of giving, we acknowledge our shared humanity and the inherent dignity of every individual. The barriers that often divide us crumble in the face of such a profound expression of love.

Moreover, the act of giving is not confined to material possessions alone. It encompasses the giving of time, understanding, forgiveness, and kindness. In these acts of generosity, we mirror the divine love that seeks no reward, boundless in its capacity to embrace all.

As we navigate the season of giving, let us do so with a conscious awareness of the spiritual significance embedded within this practice. Let every gift be a testament to the boundless love that Christmas represents—a love that transcends the limitations of our understanding, embracing all of humanity in its warm and benevolent glow. In this universal spirit of giving, may we find not only the joy of giving but also the joy of receiving the divine love that flows through every act of kindness.

3. Reflection and Renewal: A Spiritual Inventory : In the bustling tapestry of holiday festivities, Christmas stands as a sacred oasis, inviting us to embark on a journey of introspection and renewal. As the year draws to a close, and the world shimmers with the glow of lights and festive cheer, there exists a profound opportunity to step back from the whirlwind of activity and engage in a spiritual inventory.

Amidst the twinkling lights and the joyful gatherings, Christmas offers a moment of respite—a juncture where we can intentionally pause to reflect on the chapters of our spiritual journey. It’s a time to review the tapestry of our experiences, acknowledging the lessons learned, the challenges faced, and the growth that has silently unfolded within the corridors of our being.

This introspective pause is akin to turning the pages of a spiritual journal, each page narrating stories of resilience, love, and self-discovery. As we immerse ourselves in this reflective process, we find an opportunity to release the weight of negativity that may have accumulated throughout the year. The act of letting go becomes a spiritual cleansing, creating space for the light of positivity and hope to permeate our souls.

Forgiveness, too, becomes a poignant theme during this season of reflection. In the gentle embrace of Christmas, we are encouraged to forgive not only others but also ourselves. It’s a compassionate release, an acknowledgment of our shared humanity and the imperfections that make us beautifully human. The freedom that forgiveness bestows is a precious gift we give ourselves, opening our hearts to the transformative power of love.

As we navigate this spiritual inventory, we also set intentions for the coming year. Christmas becomes a threshold—a symbolic crossing from the old to the new, from the known to the potential waiting to unfold. These intentions become guiding stars, illuminating the path of our spiritual evolution in the days and months to come.

The sacred space of reflection and renewal that Christmas offers is not confined to a specific tradition or ritual. It transcends denominations and embraces all who are willing to engage in this intentional pause. In the quiet moments of contemplation, we connect with a universal rhythm—the pulse of collective introspection that echoes through the hearts of individuals around the globe.

May this Christmas be more than a celebration; may it be a sacred pilgrimage within, where the stillness of reflection meets the promise of renewal. In the dance of twinkling lights and the hush of silent nights, may we find the courage to release, forgive, and set forth with renewed purpose on our spiritual odyssey.

4. Community and Connection: Unity in Diversity: In the radiant glow of Christmas, the warmth of community and the embrace of connection emerge as vital threads weaving through the fabric of the season. Beyond the glittering decorations and festive melodies lies a profound invitation to experience unity in diversity, transcending individual boundaries to partake in the communal spirit that defines this sacred time.

The communal aspect of Christmas extends an open-armed welcome to diverse expressions of togetherness. Whether it’s the intimate gathering of family, the joyous embrace of friends, or the collective participation in community events, the season becomes a catalyst for forging bonds. These shared moments are not merely a celebration of proximity; they are an embodiment of a deeper spiritual connection that binds us all.

In the tapestry of Christmas celebrations, diversity becomes a radiant thread, interwoven with various customs, traditions, and expressions of joy. Each family, each community, adds its unique hue to the collective mosaic of shared humanity. The diverse ways we celebrate—the rituals, the meals, the songs—contribute to a rich and vibrant tapestry that reflects the universal truth of our interconnected existence.

The essence of unity in diversity unfolds in the exchange of smiles, the laughter echoing in homes, and the shared goodwill permeating the air. It is a recognition that, despite our differences, we are bound by a common humanity that transcends individual beliefs, backgrounds, and cultures. In these moments, the divisions that often characterize the world outside seem to fade, giving way to a profound sense of belonging.

Christmas becomes a microcosm of a world where unity is not stifled by homogeneity but celebrated in the beautiful mosaic of differences. Each tradition becomes a melody, and each gathering becomes a harmonious chord in the grand symphony of shared existence. It is a reminder that the beauty of humanity lies in its myriad expressions, and the richness of life is found in the tapestry of diversity.

As we gather in the spirit of community during Christmas, let us be mindful of the transformative power of connection. In these shared moments, let us see the reflection of a world where unity thrives in diversity—a world where our shared humanity is the melody that binds us together. May the spirit of community and connection during Christmas inspire us to carry this essence into the broader tapestry of our lives, fostering understanding, compassion, and a celebration of the rich diversity that makes our collective journey truly extraordinary.

5. Gratitude and Humility: Embracing the Gift of Simplicity: In the heart of Christmas, beneath the glittering ornaments and the festive extravagance, lie two virtues that form the very essence of the season: gratitude and humility. As we exchange gifts and gather around tables laden with festive delights, Christmas becomes a poignant reminder to be grateful for the abundance that graces our lives. In this celebration of gratitude, the simplicity of the nativity story unfolds as a timeless lesson—a lesson in humility and an appreciation for the beauty found in simplicity.

Gratitude, like a melody, infuses the air during the Christmas season. The exchange of gifts becomes more than a material transaction; it becomes an expression of appreciation for the relationships and blessings that enrich our lives. It is a recognition that the true wealth of Christmas lies not in the opulence of presents but in the abundance of love, connection, and shared moments.

The nativity story, with its humble setting in a stable, imparts a profound lesson in humility. It invites us to reflect on the juxtaposition of divine significance against a backdrop of simplicity and modesty. In a world often enamoured by grandeur, the stable becomes a sanctuary of humility, teaching us that the sacred can manifest in the most unassuming places.

As we express gratitude for the small joys—the laughter of loved ones, the warmth of a shared meal, the twinkle of lights—we open our hearts to the profound gifts of existence. In this spirit of thankfulness, the grand tapestry of life is woven with threads of appreciation for the ordinary miracles that surround us.

Moreover, humility becomes a guiding star, leading us to appreciate the beauty found in simplicity. The nativity scene, with its simplicity of setting and the purity of purpose, becomes a metaphor for the richness that lies in unpretentious moments. It encourages us to strip away the unnecessary complexities and rediscover the joy that emanates from the basic, heartfelt connections with others.

Christmas, in its essence, is a celebration of the extraordinary found in the ordinary, a reminder that the most profound gifts often come in the simplest of packages. As we navigate the season, let gratitude be the melody that accompanies each joyous note, and let humility be the guiding light that illuminates our path. In embracing the gift of simplicity, may we find not only the true spirit of Christmas but also a renewed appreciation for the abundant blessings that grace our lives.

Conclusion: In the kaleidoscope of Christmas, spirituality emerges as the common thread weaving through the traditions, symbols, and celebrations. Beyond the presents and decorations, Christmas calls us to a sacred rendezvous with the divine within and around us. As we embrace the themes of light, love, reflection, community, and gratitude, we transform our celebrations into a meaningful spiritual odyssey. May this Christmas be more than a season of festivity; may it be a pilgrimage of the soul, where the sacred and the secular dance in harmony, illuminating our hearts with the timeless spirit of Christmas.
