How can design software like Illustrator and InDesign enhance the presentation of data visualizations?

In today’s fast-paced business world, presenting data clearly can significantly impact your annual report. Too often, companies fall into the trap of using overly complex visualizations that confuse rather than clarify.

Here’s the key: simplicity is essential.

Simplicity Enhances Clarity: While advanced tools can create intricate visualizations, they don’t always improve understanding. In fact, simpler graphics can convey messages more effectively.

Choosing the Right Tools: powerful insights but come with a steep learning curve. If you seek something more user-friendly, consider Google Data Studio. It integrates seamlessly with other Google services, enabling quick and effective visualizations without the stress of mastering complex software.

Preparation is Essential: Before diving into design, sketching wireframes can clarify which data is essential and how it should be presented. This step streamlines the process and helps you focus on what truly matters.

Understand Your Audience: Tailoring your visuals to meet your audience’s preferences significantly boosts engagement and comprehension.

Ask yourself: Are you presenting data in a way that resonates with your audience?

As you prepare your next report, reflect on these insights. Are you prioritizing clarity over complexity? What strategies have you found effective for engaging your audience through data? Let’s discuss!

Our minimalist design style ensures clarity leads to every presentation - modern, credible, and professional. Services: Contact VS

Graphic designers intuitively understand the time travel causality problem everytime they go back 284 steps in Indesign to copy a deleted element and NOT FUCKING TOUCH ANYTHING so they can go back to the future

Celebrating a personal exercise in a course I’m following. The exercise’s goal was to develop a book cover for one of the suggested book series. I chose the one dedicated to visual arts and photography. The pic above is how I first imagined it, the second incorporates the feedbacks received. I think it’s not bad for a first try. The concept is based on the words vision (visioni) and perspective (prospettiva), the first being the series name and the latter the publishing house’s name. The skewed triangle icon moves from the flap to the cover, then the spine and it reaches the back cover: hopefully it gives off a waving vibe, running around the cover. It the back cover I decided to rotate it 90° because I wanted it to feel like a bookmark coming out of the pages (aka the grey box). Reasons behind the thick grey lines: the horizontal one on the cover on top of the main picture represents the shadow that appears over our eyes when we put a hand above the eyes because it’s too bright or such; the vertical grey lines on the back cover follow the same concept but based on the blinkers used on horses; they both narrow the view or focus on something more specific -> a personal vision.

The word visioni on top of the back cover text box bleeds outside the frame: what we see, a landscape, a urban scene, a macro, etc. doesn’t actually stop once is within the canvas limits but it continues outside of the art work, in the way we interpret it.

The spine: modified after the feedback because being back it may be more visible when stacked vertically in a library; plus, the zebra-like graphic at the bottom might be an identifiable trait of the series, maybe intriguing a future reader even looking from afar. Another suggestion was to colour the letters with a bright or shocking shade.

Alquimia Visual: Gameficando o Pacote Adobe via POJ

I’m going to punt InDesign into the sun.

This ONE image caption is REFUSING to behave properly. It is too far from the image (despite being set to be closer) and every time I try and move it to within the main text frame it completely vanishes. :) :) :)

I have replaced the image multiple times. It doesn’t change anything. I can live with the caption being farther away than it is supposed to be if I can just get it to be in the main fucking text frame without vanishing.

Here is my second version of the children’s book submission (screenshotted from a pdf) with a reflection included:

Overall I’m pretty happy with the formatting of this book, I like the colour scheme and the swamp aesthetic I put together, it fits together pretty well, in hindsight I could have included a little more variation between the formatting of each story and perhaps adjusted the colour palette to use slightly fewer colours (for simplicity) but otherwise I’m satisfied with this project.

Today we went through a variety of InDesign and skills including aligning an image to the page, adjusting the curve graphs of an image to make it lighter and increase contrast with the text above, using a gradient mask to limit this contrast to a specified area, blurring an image, using the content awareness tool to expand an image and creating a duotone image using photoshop image adjustments. Great stuff for formatting a presentation!

here’s a bit of a blur-fest.
