The people on substack fill me with rage. Their false humility is like uncanny valley levels of actions not matching with words. It’s like being forced to read a little life a hundred times by someone who swears it’s the best book they’ve ever read. You’re not better than me because you care about vibes and cursive fonts, mid-20s woman with a gifted kid complex.
Booktok sucks. Booktok recs sucks. People who defend it suck.

The moment someone presents an actual argument over the damage caused or the impending crisis because of poor literature, accusations of misogyny are thrown. No, I’m not against literature for women or by women. I am against any badly written content that gets more credit than it deserves because lately everything is about sex. Writers can throw in one sexy scene and it salvages every flaw in their characters and writing. It’s the best book of the decade because sex!! It’s gonna be one of the classics someday because sex!! The characters are so dark and nuanced!! Babe, that guy’s a sexual predator.
Just say you want to read porn, enjoy reading porn, and move on instead of trying to convince others you are a literary scholar by draping a fuck all book with your faux depth and interpretation. If it’s author’s *kink* and it’s nothing deep, then it’s YOUR kink and nothing deep.
Stop picking fights with others who are bringing up valid discussions on themes misused and exploited. Your favourite book can be YOUR favourite but it still warrants criticism because it’s published for everyone.
And for fuck’s sake, know what the fuck marketing in book sphere means these days. Publishing houses don’t give a fuck if the writing is good. It matters more to them if their books make money. And sex makes money. We’ve come full circle with men writing naked women for publicity to women doing it to themselves because, hey feminism!!
