“i want him in a way that is concerning to feminism” <- trite, overdone, equates feminism to prudishness and is thus concerning to feminism in itself

“i want him in a way that is concerning to medical science” <- well now we’re getting somewhere.

[Video description: A TikTok by @neontigertattoo. Gentle guitar music plays over all speech, muting it. A tattooist is filmed tattooing a bald heavily tattooed pierced person with a beard on their scalp. The bald person says “This hurts… Do you have any numbing cream?”. The tattooist replies “No, I don’t have any numbing cream… But I have something else!”. The tattoist then softly kisses the bald person on the head, who smiles widely in response. The video pans out, showing the legs of the bald person on the tattoo bed laying on their front and kicking their legs giddily as the tattooist continues. End description.]

Ah you see but the people who say AI is making art more accessible are LAZY.
This one of the two keys of most A.I. proponents. They are Lazy and they are Greedy. They don’t wanna spend hours practicing an instrument, writing a novel or painting a picture when they can press buttons on the Beep Boop machine spit something out and make financial return for it. There’s a few that are neither (Honestly I saw an impressively well made Music video not too long ago made with A.I.) but I would labell them as the exception and not the norm.

“I very proudly entered the forestry school as an 18-year-old and telling them that the reason that I wanted to study botany was because I wanted to know why asters and goldenrod looked so beautiful together. These are these amazing displays of this bright, chrome yellow and deep purple of New England aster, and they look stunning together. And the two plants so often intermingle rather than living apart from one another, and I wanted to know why that was. I thought that surely in the order and the harmony of the universe, there would be an explanation for why they looked so beautiful together. And I was told that that was not science, that if I was interested in beauty, I should go to art school. Which was really demoralizing as a freshman, but I came to understand that question wasn’t going to be answered by science, that science, as a way of knowing, explicitly sets aside our emotions, our aesthetic reactions to things. We have to analyze them as if they were just pure material, and not matter and spirit together. And, yes, as it turns out, there’s a very good biophysical explanation for why those plants grow together, so it’s a matter of aesthetics and it’s a matter of ecology. Those complimentary colors of purple and gold together, being opposites on the color wheel, they’re so vivid, they actually attract far more pollinators than if those two grew apart from one another. So each of those plants benefits by combining its beauty with the beauty of the other. And that’s a question that science can address, certainly, as well as artists. And I just think that “Why is the world so beautiful?” is a question that we all ought to be embracing.”

— Robin Wall Kimmerer, “The Intelligence of Plants”, from the podcast On Being with Krista Tippett (via peatbogbodyhasmoved)

Googled it and you know what, it is beautiful:

A lot of tfa fics have shockwave be old as hell and just pretending to be younger / bumblebee / bulkhead’s age when undercover as Longarm but is there any actual indication of this in the canon materials? Nothing i can remember what i can remember, (in fact what i do remember Megatron saying makes me think shockwave is actually that young) & what else we do know is that blackarachnia developed the triplechanger surgery and performed it on blitzwing

& ive seen ppl hc that she helped work out the whole longarm disguise but i have more to that

Shockwave starting out as her labtech / assistant & she bases the triplechanger surgery on his mass shifting

A whole new angle for shocklita

It’s actually canon that she helped with Operation Doppelganger, and specifically the autobot disguise! It comes from the allspark almanac!

so a very long time ago, my dad worked with an arson investigator

this guy was often one of the first people on the scene following a suspected arson, once emergency services had done what they needed to do. at times, there were also civilians on the periphery. often, they were freaking out, and understandably so; their home or workplace had just, quite literally, gone up in smoke

this investigator wouldn’t try to calm them down. he wouldn’t comfort them or be a shoulder to cry on.

instead, he’d walk up to the person most visibly losing their shit, hand them a fire extinguisher, and say “hey, can you keep an eye out for any other fires, and if you see one, can you put it out with this?”

of course, there was no actual risk of another fire. he wouldn’t be on the scene investigating if there was even a chance that the fire wasn’t completely put out. but the bystander didn’t need to know that

because that person, without fail, would immediately pull it together, take the fire extinguisher, and stand guard. they were, at least temporarily, calm enough for this investigator to do this job

my dad has told me the parable of the fire extinguisher a hundred times, and i think about it a lot. i think about what it says about people and crises. i think about what it says about the grounding power of having a purpose. and i think about the importance of letting someone help me through something, even if that help is just going to be another casserole to throw into the freezer, because useless or not, that fire extinguisher might be the only thing holding them together

You are 60% water and every lake, river, pond, swamp, creek, and ocean you encounter wants to reclaim it desperately. Be careful out there.

Good, I hope it haunts everyone about to enter a body of water so bad that they wear a life jacket. 🙌

Every single person I knew (past tense) who has drowned was “a strong swimmer.” Water in the wild does not care how good you are at swimming.

I mean this with all due respect:

  • You are not going to pass a skillcheck against a rip current once it has you.
  • Waves will not bow to your physical prowess no matter how impressive.
  • Shock does not care that you used to be on your school swim team.
  • If you hit your head, being good at swimming isn’t going to turn you face-up while you’re unconscious.
  • You may be unable to return to shore. Rescue may be unable to find you quickly.

  • when you’re in water, moving cools you down. you lose heat faster in water, even relatively warm water on a pretty warm day.
  • as you cool down, your muscles stiffen, you lose the ability to swim much faster than usual (again, not even always in cold water!), and you drown.
  • to remain warm until rescue, it’s important to stay still and get into the H.E.L.P. position to preserve body heat.
  • you can’t do that treading water. You can only do that with a proper flotation device.

I once went into the water on a nice, sunny day at a popular boating lake surrounded by boaters. It took 45 minutes to be rescued. Could you swim for that long? Could you swim for that long while shivering and stiff?

Wear a life jacket!
