ive been trying to figure out how to phrase this gently because it’s been genuinely very helpful for me but it’s easy for it to land badly
if you’re worried about writing your fic, and getting caught up in perfectionisms and not-good-enoughs and internal critiques
go and read a bad fanfic that you love
go find a fic from your bookmarks or whatever that was great, and was flawed
that one that had some of the most interesting worldbuilding you’ve ever read…and the plot was just exclusively cliches, with a plot twist you saw coming for miles
that one that had incredibly realistic and witty dialogue…and the prose had you wincing your way through it
that one that changed your writing forever because of how beautifully worded it was…and characterisation went kind of off the rails in the middle…before absolutely sticking the ending
consume the works of other writers making beautiful, imperfect creations, and feel how much you love them still. then write something imperfect and beautiful
