One burger = 668 years of AI queries? The water math isn’t what you think.

The “personal guilt” narrative is obscuring the systemic accountability problem. Your personal AI footprint is roughly 1-2 gallons a year. A single burger is 660. We need to look at hyperscale operators, not individual users.

As federal budgets for NOAA climate research are proposed at $0, private AI grants are becoming emergency replacement infrastructure.

Agentic AI—systems that plan and act—can optimize power grids and forecast disasters, potentially generating a net-positive carbon ROI. But it only works if the code stays open.

Code is infrastructure. Open-sourced climate data is democratized survival.

Behold, the humble squirrel. A widely seen member of the family Sciuridae (or small to medium sized rodents to the rest of us), the squirrel is a regular visitor and resident to woodlands, gardens and large rural areas. In the UK, we see far less of the native red squirrels as opposed to their non-native grey counterparts, thanks to a virus which is immune to them but fatal to the reds. However, it is still a delight to see any squirrels roaming around with their bushy tails, almond shaped eyes and breakneck speed. It’s like you blink and suddenly they’re gone. Squirrels are very fast critters indeed, so photographing one is always a triumphant moment, especially when you least expect to see it…
Imagine you’re in a typical urban city dominated by skyscrapers, concrete buildings and public transport. The last place you’d expect to see a squirrel, right? Well, many cities have small gardens or parks where you’ll often find office workers taking their lunch break or tourists using them as a selfie backdrop. They’re also home to an oddly large number of squirrels for an urban area. The constant noise of passing traffic and crowds doesn’t seem to bother them. All they seem to care about is digging up where they buried their stash of nuts, glaring at you for interrupting their dinner or racing up the nearest tree for a first class view of the surrounding landscape. The only thing is, the time between finding their stash and darting off again is mere seconds. That’s not much time to photograph them at all but when you do, it’s the most rewarding experience and valuable lesson in adapting to what’s going on in that current environment.
