Musket Room

My wife and I went to Musket Room this past weekend to try their tasting menu. Overall it was good, but I feel like, for the price, you really aren’t getting a lot of food. Some of it was aggressively acidic as well, but that I didn’t mind so much. I was still hungry when I got home, and after a $500 meal, that should never be the case.
First course; sourdough bread with chicken butter (nice that…

Look, the closest relation I have to anybody Asian is from about a thousand years ago or so to my knowledge but congee is THE shit man

It’s like. The best fucking food ever.

I don’t like porridge btw. Fucking hate it, actually. Too sweet no matter who makes it because “iT’s SuPpOsEd To Be SwEeT”.

Congee? Salty, savoury congee with meat and veg? Ginger and scallions and spices and flavours? Love of my life. Y'all can take it from the hands of my cold dead corpse and even then my hands will be clenched around it.

(it’s also the only kind of rice I’m capable of making lol I can’t do fried rice or actual normal rice or anything else sooo)

So I meal prep my food for the week on Sundays. And I was also recently diagnosed as Chinese (Shout out to that one lady on TikTok telling white people how to improve their lives). But one plus one equals two which means I made congee for breakfast this week and suffice to say this stuff rocks. Like it’s amazing. Just had a bowl of it and I cannot wait to eat more. It is so good. It’s warm, filling, cozy, full of fun flavors, and all around a great dish. I highly recommend it! I’m gonna go eat another bowl of it like right now because damn it was good.

Finally got around to transcribing the congee recipe I had written in middle school for Spanish class onto the computer. Thank goodness cause some of the words were quite smudged and I had to guess what they were. I did not translate it tho. So I guess if anyone wants to use it they have to know spanish lol.

A very big win for spreading knowledge of Asian cooking was Uncle Roger talking about congee. He has analyzed sooooo many fried rice recipes, and it’s good to see another rice dish be mentioned. Rice porridge is a great way to use rice cheaply. I personally use leftover rice to get rid of it, but higher-end congee is made from scratch.
