i’m sure most of you know better than to click mystery links in e-mails. but if you absolutely must be a curious cat, there is a helpful tool called VIRUSTOTAL, where you can upload files, links, and photos before you open them. It will run inputs through its database and tell you if the item in question is infected or not.

yo i just watched like three YouTube videos about this old computer “virus" so uhhh…

Facts about the YouAreAnIdiot virus! (TW FOR FLASHING LIGHTS)

• Mainly from 2002, the ads leading to the download of this virus were mainly on…Adult websites.
• You’d be redirected to “youdontknowwhoiam.org”. This was funny, because nobody actually knew who made the virus or the website!
• You’d immediately be shown a gif with three smiling faces switching between black and white with the words “You Are An Idiot” above the faces. Additionally, loud audio would loop, singing and laughing about how you were an idiot.
• If you tried to close the window, six smaller ones would appear.
  They’d bounce around your screen, getting louder and louder. You’d have to close more and more windows until it eventually crashed your computer, and you’d have to force-restart it.
• Usually, this would’ve gotten rid of the virus. However, it would be a real bummer if you left an unsaved file open.
• Though…In some cases, the virus just started up all over again!
• Eventually, your computer would become unusable if you didn’t have the right defenses.

Have older folks ever consider the reason why the newer generations aren’t fear mongered into internet safety practices to avoid malicious malware, key loggers and computer viruses and people is because the corporations, are using it routinely to scrape data from everyone including children?

And instead they put the focus on everyday users and demand more data from us in the form of “safety” rather than the corporations who are running background programs to “determine your age” or “provide more customised experience” a fancy way of saying they’re keylogging you in some shape or form.

Think about it. How often do you hear the younger gen talk about anti viruses, malware scanners, and ad blockers? Barely anymore.. adblockers maybe and then plenty of talk for VPNs.

Idc what you say about how it “protects children”. No company aka no stranger should ask and possess the 3d model of a child or anyone if not for governmental use. Because we all know dang well that data is gonna be sold. And that image of a kid can be traced back to a locale well…“protect the kids” my ass.

We as a society used to be so vocal about not capturing or sharing the images of children, blurring their faces needing permission by a guardian, not taking photos of kids who aren’t yours, not sharing photos of children who aren’t yours, and now schools are placing full pages of year book photos on bus stop stalls and companies are requesting 3d pictures of people. We’re going backwards folks.

Just a big warning, there are ads on Tumblr that break your page and try to force a redirect to a virus website! This happens by simply scrolling past them! Please report any ads that seem to lock your page! Have popup blocker turned on!
