What does it mean when you find out through high in the grapevine that one person is talking about you when you’re not around (as in when you’re not in the office) and by high in the grapevine, I mean higher level managers that aren’t there every day?

Turns out there are factless, very speculative, baseless comments, allegations and rumors spreading about me at a job that I haven’t even worked at for 3 weeks yet. And the main culprit is my immediate manager, which means she’s talking to regular employees and others about me on my days off as a part time employee.

To my face she’s singing loud praise where everyone can hear her. And then she’s going around talking about me to where the other managers brought it to my attention for clarification because it didn’t make sense to them. It makes even less sense to me. Like how does it come to this when I haven’t done anything but help people since I started and presented myself in a very friendly manner? I’m very confused. Especially because she sings such high praises that other people comment on with me.

What is it about me that makes people think they can talk about me and have evidence to prove the weird shit they say? Cause it wasn’t even like anything bad apparently. It was just factless and weird and apparently traveled through different channels. Some of it was probably misunderstandings or miscommunication. The rest seems just like probing information trying to dig something up. I really don’t know.

Gator Gazing

With my little sister in town, we decided to brave Orlando Wetlands for a walk and a little gator gazing.

From a distance.

It was a cold day, so I knew the alligators would be out sunning themselves because their cold-blooded bodies don’t naturally heat up like ours. This was my sister’s third time in the area–her hesitancy was less, but she was cautious, especially if I ventured too far to…

CTS-A: Emotional Intelligence

Week 3 - Emotional Intelligence

Q1. We talked about “Self-management”, “Self-awareness”, “Empathy” and “Relationship management”. Which aspect do you think you are strongest at, and which is something you should try to improve? Discuss with reference to today’s activities, and even your Studio collaborations.

A1. In class today, I drew a picture of myself and thought deeply about what my strengths and weaknesses were. To briefly explain the four competencies, self-management is the ability to effectively regulate emotions, behaviors, and time. Self-awareness is the ability to clearly understand emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Empathy is the ability to understand and care for the emotions and needs of others. Relationship management is the ability to maintain positive and constructive relationships with others.

I think my greatest strength is “self-management.” I think I am good at regulating my emotions and distributing my actions and time to use my tasks as efficiently as possible. The reason why this competency is my greatest strength is that unless something special happens, I try to live my life regularly as written in my life planner. I try to live a regular life, such as studying my major for at least 3 hours a day and eating at least 2 meals a day.

My greatest weakness is empathy. I try to empathize with people as much as possible, but I have never been other people, so it is difficult for me to understand them in my head. However, to overcome this, I try to listen to others as much as possible and try to accept their thoughts and opinions. I have often heard from my friends and people that I lack empathy. That’s why I’ve been trying to make the most of this by listening to people’s stories, empathizing with them, and working together to find solutions.

What are the requirements that ensure a safe driver in the workplace?

In the workplace, vehicles and equipment are being driven from one location to the other. There are few places where automated vehicles can be used. However, in other places where automated vehicles are not used, drivers will be needed. It is always important that drivers are carefully trained and supervised so that they don’t end up causing accidents in the workplace. A safe driver is what is…

You can find plenty of examples of doctors who are brilliant at medicine but have a lousy “bedside manner” — it’s a well-worn character archetype in fiction — but you never really see the reverse (and for good reason). When was the last time you heard something like ‘oh, he’s a terrible surgeon — kills more of his patients than he saves — but damned if he doesn’t have a great bedside manner; the hospital keeps him around because he’s just so darn likable’?
