Swiss steak with mushrooms is a hearty and comforting dish made with soft beef that is cooked in a tasty tomato and mushroom sauce. For a cozy dinner at home, this dish is great.
Ingredients: 1 ½ pounds beef round steak, cut into serving-size pieces. ¼ cup all-purpose flour. ½ teaspoon salt. ¼ teaspoon black pepper. 2 tablespoons olive oil. 1 onion, chopped. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 cup beef broth. 1 can 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes, undrained. 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced. 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. ½ teaspoon dried thyme. ½ teaspoon dried oregano.
Instructions: Put flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Use the flour mix to cover the beef pieces. Warm up the olive oil in a big pan over medium-high heat. While the beef is still hot, take it out of the pan and set it aside. Put chopped onion and minced garlic in the same pan. Cook until it gets soft. Put the beef back in the pan. Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, diced tomatoes, and beef broth should all be added. Once it starts to boil, lower the heat, cover, and let it cook for about an hour, stirring every now and then, until the beef is soft. Put the mushroom sauce on top of the hot beef slices when you serve them.
