Thanks, I’m glad you like these guys! Most of it is just picking familiar shapes to work off of and using real world animal anatomy as a base.

Also if his tail rattles when it moves, could he use it as maracas?

Thanks! His face is mostly based on a baboon skull, though I’ve gone and mixed it a bit with a human skull for some of the eye socket and forehead proportions.

With his tail I’m thinking it doesn’t rattle every time, but maybe if he whips it real quick or intentionally shakes it around. Otherwise it creaks a bit. The closest I could compare it to would like when I once had to move an old deer carcass that got mummified in the sun, they get pretty noisy when they’re all dried out- it probably sounds like that.

Not sure if it would be like maracas exactly, but possibly like a rattlesnake. Even then though Primus isn’t really the type to have that sort of fun with his body- he hates being undead.

Yeah, I was basically in the same position as you a few months ago. Very few people have written about arthropod enrichment. That’s why I decided to take what I could find on the internet and combine it with my own observations to help everyone else!

The first step is converting the model into a flat texture map, this is called UV maping!

I have to cut the model into parts, flatten them and arrange them (My map could be neater but I was impatient…)

Then I exported the map and brought it into Sai (typically i can load the model directly into photoshop but my version is outdated V-V )

I draw onto the map and save…then the texture (as long as I hook it up correctly) will automatically update on the model!

The bright green parts ill be transparent later to create a hair effect :>

If you want to see the whole process the stream was archived here (Fair warning, some parts are an auditory nightmare as I played music while talking through a text to voice robot…)
It’s 5 hours long but you can skip through to see the model develop (and also dance)

Yes! Though it’s a little weird to want to domesticate a sapient being. Mimics are not only intelligent, but are often capable of communicating in Undercommon and/or Aklo!

Most of the time, Mimics aren’t truly Evil, just malicious, fae-like pranksters, and can be convinced to back off on their attack or bribed into going away… provided they aren’t hungry.
