I wish I was on ur side of the fandom bc I have seen the opposite. I’ve seen people defending Quackity and his team as if they would ever do the same for them

hey anon!! my perspective is probably a bit skewed because i have over 10 years of retail experience under my belt at this point, and work at a management level which comes with its own inherent level of stress. that being said, my current job is by FAR the best job i’ve had up to this point and i really, really love it. this is also going to depend on what thrift shops you work for. ive heard the worst things about the “big box”/for-profit thrift stores (such as goodwill, salvation army, savers/value village, probably others as well) so those will probably be the most stressful. things are….usually better (so i’ve heard) at nonprofit/independently owned thrift stores. ymmv depending on whats around you and what management is like wherever you end up going!! more under the cut because i realized how long this might be

my job is simultaneously More and Less customer-facing than an associate-level position (as in, i engage with customers on a community level and build relationships with other businesses in the area), but im usually not solely ringing people out. but i still also talk to LOTS of customers during the day!! ive built a lot of customer service skills so this comes easy to me and i really like it!! some days are harder than others, of course, but where im at right now, the absolute god awful worst day at my current job would probably be equal to what i would’ve called an “easy day” at my previous job (management at starbucks). your own comfort level with socializing and whether you’re working the customer service side or the sorting/processing side will probably affect the stress you feel as well!!

my typical day-to-day consists of working on marketing/social media stuff, putting out inventory and staging it so it all looks nice on the shelves and tables, doing some financial analysis stuff/layout planning, prepping for any sales or events we have coming up, and then the usual customer service type of stuff. i usually only do sorting/pricing when i genuinely literally have nothing else to do, or if i need a break from whatever project im working on, or if we have a callout and we’re short-staffed. i do really like this part of the job but during this time of year its a bit slow and probably won’t pick up until spring/summer…also i hate sorting baby clothes SO much

also i GENUINELY think if you like vintage stuff and you LIKE thrifting, working in thrift/secondhand will bring you enjoyment. if u like it and are passionate about it i think its worth looking to see if there are any secondhand shops around you that are hiring!!! i hope this answered your questions and gave u some insights, anon!! thanks for reading my yapwords <3
