La notizia è arrivata come tante altre: la Russia ha ufficialmente bloccato WhatsApp. Titoloni, indignazione, qualche meme.
E poi, come sempre, tutto finisce nel dimenticatoio. Ma questa volta vale la pena fermarsi, perché dietro quella notizia c’è qualcosa di più interessante della semplice censura di Stato.

and that fire so often incinerates reason.
But of course, my dear…
one must preserve decorum,
and exercise the utmost care, naturally,
when implying that rubbish might surpass anything at all.
Believe me — such a thing is possible.
Or worse still, when observing that certain works,
productions, or whatever one is expected to call
aesthetic abominations,
amount to nothing more than a more elaborate nothing.
Such remarks have a most unfortunate tendency
to distress Papa’s most devoted admirers —
those very souls who confuse obedience with taste,
submission with friendship.
You know the type.
And heaven forbid that the official boot-licker —
incidentally the favourite,
the hired enforcer,
perhaps even the lover —
upon sensing the faintest threat
to something he does not even understand,
should fall ill with indignation
and rush to its defence
using arguments more commonly associated with
wounded pride,
arrested development,
and a rhetoric bound to a most persistent
absence of discernment.
Frankly,
an eleven-year-old child
might have mounted a more convincing rebuttal.
How tragic.
