@lemmetakeachomp and I were talking about me googling a shit tone about guns for my fanfic and one of our guy friends overheard some of it and it led into a really deep conversation over guns and the different benefits of types of guns such as a DA Revolver>Semi-Auto Pistol and that shit was funny as fuck, we started dogging on hammerless DA revolvers and derringers and how it’s always the femme fatale or badass female characters who get them and how stupid it is because yes they’re good for concealed carry due to size and the lack of a hammer for one of them but being such stupid looking and teensy tiny guns for what’s supposed to be an awesome character. Very nice convo. 10/10. This is why he’s one of my favourite guys.
For farming tools that get turned into cool weapons in fiction there’s a modifier that directly affects how a tool is considered being “familiarity” on top of usefulness and coolness. You won’t find someone with a magic dirt trowel as a weapon until you destroy its familiarity (by just presenting the blade or even modifying them historically, which is how we have shuriken), however lack of familiarity can also destroy the chance of something being considered a cool weapon. In theory a hay knife could be considered a cool weapon but it’s beat out by tools that seem similar (a hay knife is for refining or cutting bales of hay, unlike things like a sickle or scythe).
A fourth parameter of course can change how these things are treated is the doohickyisms of magical weaponry, but those have only rare use cases like with a watering can growing magic plants. Things like a leaf rake, will be left behind despite the fact that a magic rake that controls magical leaves would contain great whimsy.
In the end some things can’t so easily be saved by these parameters, which is why there’s nobody who wields the powers of a wheelbarrow despite being the best farming tool.
My Highlander OC Hilde is on my mind again, her preferred sword is a messer which is a sword adapted from knives of the peasantry in some “germanic” parts Europe to loophole some laws about swords being carried by peasants
Examples:

even though the old laws no longer apply she’s proud of being a peasant (especially after years of being derided for it) and her fighting style takes advantage the some of more “complicated” handles some messers have to put extra hurt on challengers.
She is a vicious fighter, might have grown up doing hard labor every day of her left as free born peasant farmer and has tremendous stamina but chivalry never applied to her in life and that is reflected in the brutality she fights with.
Also the fact she died looking like the hard side of 40 with grey in her hair she’s been treated like easy pickings not worth a formal challenge (straight up ambushed at times) might also have something to with it. Her brutality in a fight kept her and any one she saw fit to protect in one piece.
I don’t know this person but I wanted to show a person holding this style of handle:

Imagine you’re some punkass head hunter ambushing some “old lady” she ducks/doges your swing the sucker punches you with that so hard you think an organ burst and good bye you’re dead
Yeah, im lesbian, I have a sword. Unfortunately, that sword is plastic because I’m broke.
I borrow my father’s sword on occasion tho. ^_^
pretty certain like 80% of my problems would be more manageable if i had a giant axe
An ax is the sexiest weapon for a woman to wield. That and a Morningstar flail. Fight me.
