Martin Kove has spent more than 50 years popping up everywhere — Gunsmoke, Cagney & Lacey, The Incredible Hulk, Rockford Files, Walker, Texas Ranger — but it’s John Kreese from The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai that turned him into one of TV’s most unforgettable villains.

When we talked about the final season of Cobra Kai, Kove said he never wanted Kreese to stay a one-note tough guy. “I told them, you’ve got to write me with vulnerability… I don’t care if you go up and down, up and down. Give me the emotional colors.”

And that’s exactly where the character went.

“John Kreese is fully capable of change,” he told me. “Once he finds the answers.”

We also talked about the strange journey of playing the “ultimate bully” who now gets asked to give motivational speeches at churches and schools and how a character that once stood for “no mercy” has slowly turned into something far more complicated.

Tonight’s guests include Martin Kove (Karate Kid), Jacob Bertrand (Cobra Kai), Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman), Louisville filmmaker Evan Mascagni, and Cornbread Mafia member Joe Keith Bickett.

Plus new music, classics, news, and notes you’ll want to copy before the bell rings.

6p ET on WFPK. Homework optional. Listening recommended.

Hot take (I think) but I’m glad Daniel didn’t end up with Kumiko in canon and that Cobra Kai worked out their tension

It just makes more sense for him to move on and meet someone new instead of staying hung up the girl he knew for like a month on the other side of the planet during high school

VIDEO IDEAS/Suggestions

TWD and LawRusso

I was really thinking about making another video— but idk what song that’s NOT Melanie Martinez… (for LawRusso news… it’s at the bottom of post)

Walking Dead

I was thinking maybe Monster from RUNAGROUND for another Negan tribute.

But it’s gonna be very similar to VOID. Or possibly Angel of Darkness by Nessmilia for just a general TWD tribute??

But that can possibly be too much like the Rick tribute I just put out… I’d put a poll but idk if anyone looks at my shitty post or not lol 😅

Oo! Teeth by Lady Gaga for a Negan/Rick?? Who knows if anyone has ideas ping me :)

LawRusso

Also I’m still up for LawRusso vids if you have any suggestions— tell me! It’s been quite a while… so please let me know if you want more. I’ve been so focused on Walking Dead I know I’ve neglected The Karate Kid/Cobra Kai.

So hit me up with a song request if you have one for LawRusso!

[Also Hi— if you don’t know me, I make fan edits on YouTube! Here’s my channel! https://youtube.com/@alittlekittycat21?si=HTaIz2dn2XGjl_dM]

I didn’t want to leave this year behind without having watched Karate Kid Legends so I finally did and I gotta say, I really loved it.

I loved the atmosphere, the characters, it wasn’t too wild but not boring at all, great soundtrack.. Great watch!
