ALTTimerra/Merrin has been my favorite Engage ship since I first encountered them. Timerra is my favorite character, and she deserves a devoted partner that supports her in her hands-on approach as Solm’s heir. Their supports have such an intimate feel to me, both serious yet comfortable at the same time. The script is great by itself, but I think the music choices and voice acting really add to the tender and flirty atmosphere. The typical A support music being used straight away in the C support gets across how close they are, and the lack of music in the B support creates its own hushed sense of intimacy.
I also adore their backstory. I love how Merrin has always seen Timerra as her princess, even before knowing her station. Timerra’s core ideal is to accept others for who they are regardless of their origins, and Merrin’s story is about how she wanted to escape the life decided for her to pursue her dreams instead. They are able to live the lives they want and be their best selves because of each other. I also enjoy the slight tension of Timerra asking Merrin’s mother’s permission to knight Merrin, with Merrin agreeing to become matriarch someday.
[[MORE]]Of course, Timerra’s team has a lighter side as the Racket of Solm. Despite how Timerra and Merrin are both noted by others to be bad at singing, Merrin’s ally notebook lists Timerra’s songs as one of her likes, and Merrin says in her supports with Panette that though people always told her she was a terrible singer, Timerra praised her voice as unique, which Merrin seems to have taken to heart. They’re both meat lovers as well, with Merrin also enjoying Timerra’s cooking.
Merrin’s other supports show her care for Timerra’s well-being. She tells Panette she couldn’t live with herself if she made Timerra cry, and her supports with Kagetsu are about how her conviction to protect Timerra is so strong that it can spur her to win any duel.
Since Timerra values freedom and independence, I sometimes wonder how these two manage Merrin’s more protective side as shown in the aforementioned support chain. Since they have such a fond and trusting relationship, I have to imagine they can work through that, but it’s still an interesting potential conflict to explore (especially with how Timerra’s ring support reveals that she worries her bonds with others will keep her tied down).
Another thing I love thinking about is how in most of Merrin’s supports, we see her trying to act cool while flirting with women, only for the parts of her that are enthusiastic, clumsy, or awkward to come out. While this is very endearing, I think it’s interesting that she manages to keep up her cool knightly side with Timerra, arguably the person she most wants to impress. Even so, I’m sure Timerra would be super accepting of Merrin being more expressive and indulging her hobbies, just like how she supports Merrin’s cringe singing, and they also must have seen many sides of each other when they initially traveled together (as well as when Timerra’s team travels together in the epilogue).
As for the Fell Xenologue, I love Merrin’s interaction with fell Timerra. The way that Merrin manages to be so smooth even with this version of Timerra, even in the face of learning that the Merrin of this world is dead, really shows her care for Timerra. The fact that even fell Timerra is so affected by seeing her really says a lot, especially since fell Timerra’s convo with Fogado reveals that this version of her thinks that as a queen, she has to remain stoic at all times, to the point where he has to remind her she’s still human. That fact has always felt revealing of regular Timerra as well, who tries to stay strong due to her station in a different way, just with more of a casual front–just one more reason I love seeing someone so doting at her side.

I can’t pick a different pair
Timerra and Fogado are just endearing in their straightforwardness. They don’t have any kind of traumas and get to just be close and supportive because that’s what they choose to do

Timerra openly admits that she was scoping out Ivy for weaknesses in their supports which got me thinking if she pulls similar behavior with the princes and I noticed a specific pattern with her
Fogado tells Céline that Firene appears standoffish and isolated, so we can assume Timerra has a similar perspective
When Timerra’s talking to Alfred, she’s somewhat testing how social he is. She invites herself into his activities before offering him the chance to participate in hers. She’s gauging the effort he’s willing to put in their friendship to see how much effort he’ll put into their alliance later
While Diamant is the one to initiate the conversation with her, she immediately uses the opportunity to size up what kind of person he is. She subtly, then not so subtly, pushes him to interact with regular civilians and she’s there to see how he treats them. Based on how he treats ordinary folk, she can determine if he’ll be another warmonger like the previous kings of Brodia
This is also something she does in her Alear support. Not telling them about the bandit raid seems odd at first, but when you watch it again under the lens of “Timerra is gauging the other leaders,” it makes sense that she’s also testing Alear. The fate of this war hinges on Alear’s abilities. Timerra needs to know how they manage under pressure and the surprise bandit attack will show if they have the skill and mental strength to handle sudden issues
I think it’s telling that all of these supports have the characters doing something on Timerra’s terms before she’ll do what they’re used to. She essentially puts them all in a situation where she has the advantage before she will willingly lower herself to be on even footing with them. The only exception is Alfred, but there’s still the caveat that he immediately reciprocate with something that benefits her
Timerra has a consistent pattern with the other royals. Not only is she looking for weaknesses, she’s mainly testing to see whether or not she can trust their judgement as fellow leaders. During and after the war, Elyos will be depending on them for leadership and she needs to know who they are in the ways that count
I did not know that, actually. Though, I think Sandstorm is probably meant to make up for that, since it’s a percent chance to scale off her Defense rather than her strength (looked it up and Timerra’s is a -1 which is??? Okay girlie 😭)

It’s easy to not notice because Nel’s personality is less expressive, but both of them share the same love language. It’s all about just spending time together with the ones they love
Nel is actually a very sentimental person as is Timerra. They don’t need extra effort to cherish the time they spend with you. As long as you’re together, that’s enough to make the moment special
There is a very cute potential here
Please tell me you see the vision lol

So a while ago I asked people for requests to do five minute drawings. It was a good learning experience that five minutes is way not enough time for me to draw a picture I’m OK with lol. Especially with how complex Fire Emblem designs are. Anyway, I wanted to redo these characters in a way I could be a little happier with. Unfortunately in the interim I lost the names of who made the requests, so if this was you, I hope you like her.
I’m trawling through Soren’s bond convos because I love him and his B bond with Timerra is hilarious:
Timerra: Every time you open your mouth, you’re talking about Ike. Guess you really like him, huh?
Soren: Like. Dislike. I have no interest in such meaningless words.
Soren. Buddy. You are fooling nobody. You only talk positively about people 1% of the time and 99.99% of that 1% is about Ike. My guy. Timerra wasn’t asking a question, she was approving of your role as the world’s grumpiest hype man.
