So okay, some of you may know that I downloaded Starcraft: Remastered a while back. I’ve been playing through the campaign off and on and was getting bored with it, so I was like, why don’t I make some maps? It’ll be just like old times. Not doing any crazy UMS games or anything, but just making a sandbox that I can beat up on the computer in.
It turns out that the original map editor was deprecated, and no longer available in the remaster. I went online and found that officially, Blizzard recommends ScmDraft 2 as the new de facto map editor. Folks, I tried all friggin’ day to get this thing to work, and it never loads because it can’t find some file it needs. There were a bunch of solutions on the forums… from like 2019, and none of them worked. I downloaded and installed all these other things like .net and some virtual console thing, all to no avail.
I finally found a forum post where someone said that they had to actually install the old deprecated StarEdit application, as the install of that contains the missing files. Well, I downloaded it and installed it, and just for fun I was like “let’s see if it opens.” And it does. And it looks exactly like I remember the map editor looking. I haven’t tried actually saving a map yet but like… did I just waste the whole day for nothing? Anyone else know what’s up with all this?
