This was really really hard. I haven’t watched that many BLs, honestly, but I have watched some really good ones that I personally think should be definite inclusions in the BL syllabus. I’d brought it down to 8, and it was a nightmare getting myself to cut down to 6. Somehow, I managed but I had to leave out a couple of my favourites 😭😭
Anyways, before we get into it, i just wanna explain in brief why i chose what i did. BLs, especially Thai BLs, have two major types, the high school BL, and the university BL, with sub-categories and nuances in each. But, BLs also have a lot of variety. I think watching these 6 BLs exemplifies that. To get an idea of what you like, and also to realize the extents this genre has achieved, one should watch at least a few of the exceptions, so to say. The following can be fitted into tropes, but i do think that somewhere, somehow, they stand out just a bit from the others in their category. Or I’m just blabbering about- either way, here we go hehe (listed in chronological order)

perfect intro to bl. bite sized enough that you can watch in one go, enemies to lovers, autistic/adhd couple, color coded boys in love? all the bl heavy hitters in one place. is it ground-breaking to choose? no but it’s one of my favorites and definitely the first one I’ll think about when introducing people to bl
2. To My Star/ To My Star 2
if we have more time and the person i’m showing it to is into emotional devastation it’s GOTTA be tms/tms2. we have kitty/puppy boyfriends, we have pining we have yearning we have VERY GOOD KISSES. 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
3. KinnPorsche
look it says one gif but lbr kinnporsche is at LEAST 3 shows in a trenchcoat. that’s one of the reasons it’s so good to show people. the other reason is that it probably - as of right now - has the best production quality of any bl made so far. so.
4. Cherry Magic
ultimate warm bath of a tv series. i would recommend this show to anyone, not just anyone who wants to get into bl
5. History 3: Trapped
FREE TANG YI! this was my first bl after the untamed which is what i started with. still has a special place in my heart. obviously i’m a sucker for gangster aus so sue me.
6. I Told Sunset About You
okay. the chemistry, the yearning, the acting, the crying and maybe i lied and THIS is the bl with the best production quality in bls but like. the only way i can properly explain how i feel about this bl is
so.
