Books I read in February
1. Redwall - Novel by Brian Jacques
I’m probably just too old to really feel the magic of these books, but I ended up not really enjoying this one. I can see there is a lot to love here, though, just not for me. This is the first book published in the Redwall series and tells the story of a siege, where one side is unequivocally good and one is irredimably bad. Also, all the people are woodland animals. Kind of annoying but cute!

2. The Only Good Indians - Novel by Stephen Graham Jones
It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did, I had a great time. This book barely just barley isn’t four short stories in a trench coat, and I really enjoyed getting into the different lives and headspaces of each of the characters that the stories center around. The overarching narrative follows a group of friends and the creature come back after ten years to get its revenge. The author lists 90’s slasher movies among the insprations, which makes a lot of sense to me. It definitely has the vibe of one. There is also a surprising amount of basketball.

3. All Systems Red - Novella by Martha Wells - Re-Read
What can I say? I finished the Murderbot tv-show and fell back into this fandom. This book is the first in the Murderbot Diaries and among my favorites in the series. We follow Murderbot - a security robot with a hacked governor module - and its first ventures into actual freedom into actual freedom from the company who owns it, facilitated by a group of scientists determined to see it as a person, much to its dismay.
8/10
4. Artificial Condition - Novella by Martha Wells - Re-Read
Second book in the Murderbot Diaries, introducing my favorite character: A giant research transport ship with way more weapon systems than it should have. Murderbot and the ship’s relationship is what forms the emotional core of this series, at least in my opinion it does.
8/10
5. Rogue Protocol - Novella by Martha Wells - Re-Read
Third book in the Murderbot Diaries and another one of my favs in the series. Murderbot is really going through it in this one and it’s excellent. The ending is a bit combat heavy, but I like it.
8/10
6. Exit Strategy - Novella by Martha Wells - Re-Read
Fourth in the Murderbot Diaries and the gang is back together! This one gave me a way bigger emotion than last time around. I just got super emotional reading about Murderbot connect back with its favorite human… Extremely cute and a great finish to the first arc in this story.
8/10
7. Fugitive Telemetry - Novella by Martha Wells - Re-Read?
Technically, the sixth in the Murderbot Diaries but chronologically set before book five. I’m unsure I ever finished this one in my original read through of the series. Either way, I wanted to go in chronological order this time around, and I had a lot of fun with the murder mystery in this one.
