sometimes i invent theories i desperately want to be true. for example: people are more attracted to partners with the same hairline as them. in this world, bald people would date bald people.

absolute pseudoscience. complete nonsense.

but if it were true there would absolutely be a killer psychology course about it.

and eventually discrimination. some form of hairline segregation.

Yep, that’s what he claims. Supposedly your brain can forget things but your body quite literally remembers what happened. It often goes hand-in-hand with recovered memory therapy, which as I’ve covered here is both unscientific and abusive.

As a bioarchaeologist with a conspiracy theory loving family I find it so frustrating because why don’t you believe me? Why do you think I’m lying or being indoctrinated but Graham Hancock is the prophet who knows all the dark secrets we’re trying to hide from you😭

Psychological/Personality Testing for Couples (40M, 35F)?

My gf (35F) and I (40M) have been dating nearly 5yrs. We’ve had ups and downs, but nothing either of us consider deal breakers (so far).
She tends to run anxious, and I tend to be more laid back. We both have past relationship trauma (I am divorced and both have dealt with infidelity).
I’m curious to know what options exist for us to do testing to learn more about ourselves, in the hopes we can better understand both ourselves and each other. I’m aware of personality testing options (enneagram, MBTI, Love Languages, Big 5, etc .. some considered to be much less concrete than others).
Are there any options to test for psychological tendencies/attributes? I understand the need for diagnosis for many such issues, but are there any readily available/generic screening tools or tests to take prior to seeing a specialist? How do I know whether or not I have OCD or ADHD tendencies? Do I exhibit behavior/traits that lead to some of our struggles? Knowing would certainly be helpful in order to better know ourselves and each other.

Every single one of those tests is pop psychology bullshit that have been scientifically disproven time and time again. The way you get to know a person is by getting to know them. Hanging around them. Listening when they talk. Asking about their day.

What you’re asking for is a therapist. Please just go hire a therapist.

I don’t really believe in the Enneagrams (in the past I did but even then it was more of a casual jokey thing) but I do use them for character brainstorming because it’s easy and it works very well for motivations.

OTOH I will not touch astrology with a ten foot pole, and in the past I have deliberately selected birthdays for my characters based on what sign their personality matches the least.

I have no idea how the MBTI even works, and I don’t want to.

Future historians and archeologists are gonna find the graffiti s everywhere and think it’s the symbol of some kind of god we must’ve worshipped. Future pseudo archeologists are gonna say we must’ve had giants after discovering a giant wheel of cheese or a giant croc that was actually made as a funky art piece.

“The world according to Neupert.”

Umwälzung: Der Kampf gegen das kopernikanische Weltbild/Revolution: The Struggle Against the Copernican World View. 1928.

The Earth is not a small ball orbiting the sun in an enormous universe, rather the sun and all the planets are small objects suspended inside the Earth, which is the outer shell containing everything.

Karl E. Neupert was a German proponent of the Hohlwelttheorie — the “Hollow Earth” or “Concave Earth” theory proposed by the American Cyrus Reed Teed (1839–1908).

I love how there’s a lot of new people knowing about what’s MBTI and how our personalities function inside of our minds. It’s good to seek knowledge about who we are, and that pseudoscience can help a lot. Here’s a fanart of the NI dom duo, the most “mysterious mysteries” personalities ☕

If there’s anything parasite cleanse grifters are good at, it’s covering up how their products don’t actually do what they claim to do!

I saw this post this morning, 12 minutes after it was posted as you can see. I wanted to read the comment but guess what happened when I tried to open them….

Oh! Look at that! The post was swiftly removed! Can’t have the thousands of group members finding out this bullshit won’t actually take care of any parasites, huh?

Absolutely evil that these are the posts that the moderators decide to moderate. Y'all let the group run wild any other time, but when someone is an inch away from exposing your shit ass products OOOOOH ya gotta take that down real fast.

But yeah, they totally care about the health and wellness of their customers and are definitely not just doing this for the money 👍🏻

Pseudo-psychology hack: if the ‘theory’ frames the brain as overly metaphorical (ex. you’re love language is what you were deprived in childhood) it’s probably bullshit

Bonus hack: if the theory claims all people/behaviours fit perfectly in a set of fixed categories, probably also bullshit

Fun thing you can do at home: plug the height and weight of top athletes in sports like football into a BMI calculator. They’ll come up as obese cause it has no way to account for muscle mass. BMI is bullshit.
