“9 stripe Gilbert Baker colors used in the shape of a chevron to indicate progress and inclusion. It goes without saying this is an all inclusive LGBTQIA+ flag hopefully.
I included a version with the pink triangle but also a version without, although my original idea was with it, I understand even though its generally reclaimed as a symbol of empowerment and self identity, some may still find it to be something they don’t identify with (understandably).
The black background can mean many things, I personally chose it because it looked the cleanest and made the colours stand out. Other versions I tried were continuing the chevron at the end but that ended up making it look cluttered; and I also tried extending the violet, which made it look unbalanced.
Apologies if its badly cropped/the stripes are different sizes”

I was possessed last night by the need to make a Duke Nukem shitpost, but I gotta make it inclusive n shit so creds to @dhddmods for the version of the progress flag I used :)
Im so glad I managed to finish this before the end of pride month! It was started back in april after leaving symba at the shelter as it was a gift for an irl friend of mine who had helped me a lot with symba before then and also helped me with transporting symba and his things to the shelter which was a very stressful affair for the both of us.
I told my friend I wanted to make a gift for him in the form of a digital illustration, sent him some examples of my work and asked him what he would like me to draw. He told me he collects penguins and would love some pride themed penguin art. With the main flag he wanted being the progress flag. So after some thinking I drew up this concept for him on my ipad:
He really liked it and was surprised i had told him i intended to render it on my drawing tablet and laptop as he already thought it was cool enough in this shape.
But I knew i could do better and the composition was kind of lacking and the file was way too small so I blew that baby up in size on my laptop and turned it into this:
but the penguins felt too small (they are supposed to be emperor penguins) and also penguins are much harder to draw than they look especially since there arent many references of emperor penguins and even less of them swimming (all i found were king penguins and those refs were also scarce). After a final rework of the composition it turned into this:
this was just before i decided to go insane on the background fish and yes i did in fact hand draw every single one of them. I have “cant halfass anything disease” and have much hubris. Sometimes I thought about giving up or halfassing it but I refused! I pushed through! These past weeks my friend had his progress pride flag pulled of his balcony twice by unknown bigots. The second time he found it in a nearby outside trashcan. So that really motivated me to do my best to finish this piece to the best of my ability as soon as possible so he would have a piece of pride art that couldnt be stolen from him!
And he really likes the piece! Which makes all the effort I put in this more than worth it! He plans to print it out on nice paper and give it a nice spot in his home :)
So yeah that has been the art consuming almost all my drawing time when i managed to have time and energy to sit at my desk and draw. Now that I finished it, i am finally free to do some art fight ref prep and hopefully finish a bunch of them before art fight starts!!
antecessors or precursors of progress flag: an exploration
everyone knows that progress pride flag uses black and brown colors from Philadelphia’s pride flag plus rainbow flag colors and iteration of trans flag colors. but were there other similar flags? let’s explore and see.
where does the chevron come from? the first rainbow flags with chevrons were “Pink Triangle on the hoist of a Rainbow flag” (1996) and “Rainbow Flags with white triangle” (2006 or before; need to comment that white color in this flag represents, in Japan, “those who died from hate crimes and coexistence with friendships that still resist or face suffering”). Demigay flag (2010s) uses black chevron. Maybe these were all unrelated and H. Clinton logo may influenced the direction of the chevron as well.
