Starting to fill out my mail-in ballot today, going through candidates with the help of Ballot Ready, and one of the candidates for Senator has one experience listed - scientist. And like, his website makes him sound like a guy with progressive ideas and experience with local activism, respect, but he’s got no practical plans and aiming straight for a federal position instead of a more local one first knocks him off my list. I want someone who isn’t gonna feel overwhelmed in DC and has the experience to know how to stand ground.

And before someone says it, no, the takeaway here is not “Democrats are just as bad as Republicans, protest vote/don’t vote!” There were seven Democrats who turned their coats on this vote, vs… probably every Republican in the Senate? Or very near.
BUT, if we don’t want to reach a point where both parties are basically the same, then Democrats have to vet our candidates, and use the primary process to pick ones with integrity and courage.
And, you can’t take lazy shortcuts with this. It is not enough to look at whether a candidate is branded as “progressive” or “anti-establishment” or “pro-working class” and then conclude that they’ll necessarily be better. Fetterman was seen that way, back in the day, and he’s now probably the biggest, most consistent Regime enabler on this list.
You have to actually research candidates’ positions, endorsements, how they vote, their history. And then pick the best viable option in front of you.
