Since who you imitate reveals whose child you are, our Big Idea this morning is short and to the point: The life you imitate reveals the God you know.

Matthew 6:24 states that you can’t serve two masters. You either love one and hate the other. But can’t give both of them your time and heart. Basically, you can’t serve the Lord Jesus Christ and desire be popular and loved by the entire world.

You can’t party after work and/or school hours, and serve the Lord only on Sunday. You can’t sleep with a married man or woman, and say you love your neighbor. And you certainly can’t practice witchcraft to gain fame and popularity, while saying Jesus is your Lord and Savior.

It’s one or the other!

In this walk of life, you can’t be flip floppy, saying you’ll serve the Lord every other day. Don’t think because you have a large fanbase, tons of likes and reposts from your content that Jesus Christ needs to take a backseat in your life. Remember brothers and sisters, not only do seasons change, but so do people’s taste in things.

The approval of man has an expiration date, and it can’t take you far. But the Lord’s love, patience, mercy, and approval has no end to it. It will take you to places and to people you can’t even imagine. So stop thinking you need the approval of others to get far in life.

Only Christ has earned the right to always be your #1 priority.

Everyone has a weakness. Everyone struggles with something in their life. Whether it’s a mental battle, a battle at work, one under their own roof, or even something that’s been following them 10+ years we’re always trying to find a way to stay afloat in life. And many times we try to be our own doctors, prescribing ourselves with what or who we think is the perfect remedy for our affliction.

But in the end we find out they might only work for a few days or weeks, the problem quickly returning probably even stronger than before. Don’t think you’re alone. There are others like you trying to win the battle against their weakness. Alcohol, drugs, pornography, doing harm to their body or others, stealing, gambling, and much more.

You’re not weak when you’re trying to find help, but are afraid or ashamed to verbally ask for it. Please staple this verse deep into your mind, constantly reminding yourself whenever the enemy (who we rebuke in the mighty name of Jesus Christ) tries to tell you you’re worthless:

Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. - 1 Peter 5:7

Of course Christ is fully aware of what we’re going through, what we do behind closed doors, and our plans whether they’re for our good or not. He still wants to hear from us. You and I don’t have to be strongest. If you’re drowning in your sin, addiction, problems Christ is willing and able to not only rescue you, but also liberate you.

Run and call on The One death couldn’t keep down. He remains undefeated when solving all sorts of problems.

Sunday, August 17, ‘79. Raw and cold, and a drenching rain. Went to hear Mr. Spurgeon. House three-quarters full—say three thousand people. First hour, lacking one minute, taken up with two prayers, two ugly hymns, and Scripture-reading. Sermon three-quarters of an hour long. A fluent talker, good, sonorous voice. Topic treated in the unpleasant, old fashion: Man a mighty bad child, God working at him in forty ways and having a world of trouble with him.
A wooden-faced congregation; just the sort to see no incongruity in the majesty of Heaven stooping to plead and sentimentalize over such, and see in their salvation an important matter.
—Mark Twain’s journal entry after visiting the Metropolitan Tabernacle and hearing Charles Spurgeon preach; Charles Spurgeon; cited in Chang, Spurgeon the Pastor, 53-54.

The Lord Jesus did not say, “Feed my giraffes,” but “Feed my sheep.”

When the desire to be first overtakes the call to love one another, the church begins to fracture.

We’re already 2 months into 2026, and sometimes we feel nothing has changed. We’re either still in the same vicious toxic cycle, or we see ourselves picking up habits we never thought we would do. Instead of growing closer to the Lord, through His word and prayer, we distance ourselves from Him.

Brothers and sisters, the pleasures this world has to offer can’t compare to the blessings the Lord has in store for us. Whether you like to admit it or not, after indulging with the pleasures of the world, we quickly feel disappointment, regret, and most importantly the Holy Spirit let’s us know that Christ is hurt by our actions.

The Lord isn’t against us when wanting to have fun. But when that “fun” places a giant gap between us and the Sovereign Lord, then that becomes a huge problem. And folks, nothing that this world has to offer will ever make me want to turn my back on the Lord.

No one is perfect. We all have perverted thoughts, have habits that are toxic, and we think that the lifestyle we’re living isn’t harming our relationship with the Lord.

Just remember this one thing from this post: Christ has and wants better for us all.
