Small update for Meowbrown!
I’m currently prepping for my official teaching certification for Mandarin/Chinese, so expect more Mandarin-related notes for the next couple of months. Hope I can get that certificate on my first try ❤️
I just wanted to give a heads-up so the blog doesn’t feel unrecognizable. I’ll still be posting my other language notes. It’s still Meowbrown, just with a new goal added to the mix. Thanks for sticking around!

Reading the Wikipedia article on Taiwanese Mandarin, and it includes a list of words that are pronounced different between putonghua Mandarin in Beijing and guoyu Mandarin in Taiwan. And I’m reading along, figuring out that the first pronunciation is the putonghua and the second is the guoyu - until I get to the word for trash, where I recognise the second pronunciation laji, not the first, lese. So I copied the characters and threw them in Google translate for Simplified Chinese, to get it to show the romanisation, and yes, it shows the first one, lese.
I learnt the word for trash from Mr. Housework, when You Zhangjing and Wang Sulong had a long funny discussion about sorting the recycling, including which kind of garbage they themselves should be sorted with.
You Zhangjing accidentally taught me the Taiwanese pronunciation for trash :S

had a mandarin test today and guessed half the questions (the other half i didnt answer)

my hanzi app is great cause it teaches them based on the radicals and so you start simple and build the big ones right
but it also means there is 0 sense in what order I learn things in, cause it’s not by frequency of use, it’s by radical
so I don’t know how to say “food” but I can say “mesotron” [介子, if you’re curious]
I’m doing so great at Mandarin u guys

- 生氣（生气）- shēngqì - angry
- 緊張（紧张）- jǐnzhāng - nervous
- 困 - kùn - sleepy
- 渴 - kě - thirsty

“Grandma (maternal) is very comfortable.” - 我一點也不生氣。

“I am a little bit nervous.” - 我的小狗很困。
