#polyanthus

Polyanthus are a firm favourite at this time of year.

Their long, sturdy stems hold the flowers well above the foliage, making them particularly well suited to wet weather. The blooms remain upright and presentable, even after a spell of rain.

As hardy perennials, they return year after year, gradually multiplying to form generous clumps. An excellent choice for borders, containers, or a traditional spring display.

Second batch of Primroses and Polyanthus are ready.

These are both in the ‘primula’ family and are slightly different. They are both perennial.

The primrose has flowers close to the leaves whereas polyanthus flowers are on longer stems.

They have been bred from the wild forms, the cowslip (Primula veris) and the common primrose (Primula vulgaris.)

Those in the ‘know’ prefer Polyanthus as they are tougher, stronger, and don’t tend to rot off in very wet conditions. They also bulk up quickly and produce plenty more clumps and flower each year.

Day 16 - Polyanthus! I really enjoyed alternating the theme this year. Last year I drew flowers everyday, but this year I enjoyed the architectural designs more.
