Two historic theaters site side by side on a hill overlooking downtown. Thompson’s Opera House was built in 1873 and restored in 2009 while the Gem Theater was built in 1937 and ongoing restoration began in 2022.

Redemption Loop Hike - Kershaw-Ryan State Park, NV
Today we headed south from Pioche to the little town of Caliente, NV and to Kershaw-Ryan State Park. What a lovely little oasis in the Nevada desert! We managed a 7+ mile hike on the many bike trails that meander through the park - the majority of the hike was on the Redemption Loop trail.
The hike was dry and warm, we were grateful for the slight breeze up on the mesa. We were also grateful for the ICE COLD beers served to us at the Knotty Pine Bar & Restaurant in Caliente at the end of our hike!!

Stone Cabin Trail - Spring Valley State Park, NV
Today we explored another state park near Pioche. Spring Valley State Park is about 20 miles east of Pioche. We hiked the Stone Cabin Trail, about 5 miles round trip, as my ankle is still not up to a longer hike. This was a very cool area, lots of unique rock formations and great views from the top of the trail. We did not see another person on our hike, most of the people visiting the park were fishing near the the campground area at the west end of the park. We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful this hike was:

Stone Cabin root cellar….we poked our heads in, but neither one of us was willing to enter it (snake & critter concerns).
We had a spectacular day for hiking - picture perfect:
We actually enjoyed this park and hike a bit more than Cathedral Gorge - definitely worth the drive!

Free Camping - Pioche, NV
After a short drive from Leeds, UT to Pioche, NV, we found ourselves a great spot at the City Park in Pioche. There are several sites in the park, all the sites have water and sewer connections - donations are requested for staying in this park. We settled in, hit the local market, and then sat outside and enjoyed watching and listening to the youth baseball games going on across the street at the local fields. We are going to be staying here for a couple of days, hoping to find enough hiking to keep us entertained. Tomorrow we are headed to Cathedral Gorge State Park to check it out.
