Hello!

You might have a hard time to find Morrie’s solo MVs, because there are only a handful that were ever released.

We got 3 music videos from 1991 which were released as a VHS tape titled “浪漫者のディレンマ” (Romansha no direnma / The Romanticist’s Dilemma), and these are for “cosmosの中に” (cosmos no naka ni / Into the cosmos), “パラドックス” (Paradox), and “パニックの芽” (Panic no me / The bud of panic).

Most of these are on YouTube if you look with the original titles; out of these three videos, only “パニックの芽” is not on YT, but you can easily find it on NicoNico.

And then the only other solo music video we got is for “Serafine” which was recorded for “Ballad D” album in 2022.

As for DEAD END, there are also only a handful of music videos; in 80s it was rare to put out singles that would have music videos at the metal scene; these became more popular towards the end of 80s. From that era we only have music video for “Danse Macabre”. I think there’s also music video for “So Sweet So Lonely”, but I can’t find it online; I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it at some point though. Wikipedia claims that “Serafine” and “Good Morning Satellite” got MVs, but these you can find on YT are actually from “hyper D.” live footage that was also released as VHS tape in 1989.

From the reunited DEAD END post 2009, we had a few MVs for their singles, such as “Final Feast”, “Princess”, “Conception”, “夢鬼歌” (Yume oni uta / Demon’s dream song),

Your occasional cat: Morrie*.

*His full government name is James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree Williams, so shortening it is imperative.

I feel the need to talk about this song ‘Chrysis’ by Morrie, because I really think it’s so underrated.

I love the atmosphere of this song, his voice is incredibly beautiful and deep.

*This post could be very long talking about this song, but I am going to mention just a few things without going into too much detail (for now).

I have to start by saying that Morrie is a poetic and deeply literary artist. By reading his lyrics, you can feel the weight they carry far beyond what you might catch on a first listen or superficial reading. His lyrics are also full of symbolism, so they take time to understand.

Those who truly enter his world can easily be moved by it.

In this song Morrie talk about 蜘蛛の糸, it seems to be referring to Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s Buddhist tale: A soul in hell tries to save himself by clinging to a spider thread sent by Buddha, but when others begin to climb up too the thread breaks and he falls back into hell.

Here’s the full story translated:

So It looks that the song talks about a soul who feels a deep loneliness (also emotionally) and its internal struggle between light and darkness, connected by a fragile thread of hope, the 蜘蛛の糸 (spider’s thread). Very existentialist in Morrie’s style ♡

Ps: I can’t help but think of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Obviously it’s not the same, as one is more existentialist and the other more romantic, but I feel a special attraction for that kind of stories with tragic and heartbreaking ending 🤭
