here is a part 2!!! sorry these are really short i’m just super excited to write and want to get these out 🥹

the show ended around 11. you met mike behind the venue, where he was chatting with friends, his band/crew.
“hi.” you greeted, a little sheepish, hugging your coat around yourself a little tighter.
mike’s face lit up when he saw you, and so he stepped away. “hi, wow. glad you came.” he responded. “sorry i didn’t get to see you before.”
“yeah, sorry, i didn’t really want to be a bother.”
“oh, jeez. don’t do that, you’re never a bother.” he said and scratched the back of his neck briefly. “i’ll have to get you better seats next time, too.”
next time? you just nodded.
“mike! are you coming?” a voice interrupted from behind them. you squinted a bit to see that it was dijon and some other guys, who you knew briefly from their time at the restaurant.
“gimme a sec!” mike yelled back. “you’re coming, right?” he gently grabbed your hand.
“coming where?” you asked, but let yourself be dragged along without a response.
a little less than an hour later, you found yourself at a bar downtown with mike and some of his friends. they’re really nice guys, actually, and super funny, doing the most to make sure you feel included.
you sat on a wobbly stool behind mike, holding his beer bottle as he got crushed in a game of pool.
“you’re not very good.” you giggled softly, looking up at him looking down at you.
“i know …but considering i’m making up how to play on the spot, i think i’m alright.” he whispered, like it was a special secret just between the two of you. he gently grabbed his bottle from you and taking a sip.
you swore you felt yourself blushing, and subtly hid your face while he turned back around to the table.
the night went on with laughter and alcohol, ridiculous (and definitely exaggerated) stories, more games of pool and air hockey, gasping when a really good song came on.
“i really had fun tonight.” mike said softly, wrapping his green and black scarf around you gently. the two of you were standing outside the bar in the orange-y lamplight. he offered to walk you home, since it wasn’t too far from here.
“me too.” you smiled.
the walk home was quiet, only the sound of concrete under your feet and the occasional breeze, or him humming under his breath.
you both awkwardly stood on your front stoop for a second, deciding whether or not it was weird to hug.
mike eventually caved, though. “i’ll see you.” he squeezed you.
“see you.”

“fuck, what’s a three letter word for ‘stitched together?’” mike asked, partly to himself, staring down at the newspaper in front of him on the sticky bar counter.
“is it not ‘sewn’? i feel like that would be the easiest one on there.” you asked, somewhat polite.
he looked up to see you smiling at him, polishing a glass. “nah, ‘cause it won’t work with the other ones i have down… and i know they’re right.”
“‘…and i know they’re right.’” you mocked. it was nearly midnight, the bar you worked at in silver lake was about to close in the next thirty minutes.
it was enough money to not drown in expenses while attending art school in los angeles.
mike would come in often, after shows, or just with a friend, or just by himself. quick, awkward glances your way turned into hellos, and hellos turned into conversations and exchanged numbers. you liked the company, really, even if it was mostly awkward silence at first.
he ignored her mocking him, his phone screen lighting up his face. “okay, i looked it up. it’s darn.” he scribbed down the answer, then folded the newspaper and put it to the side.
mike’s shell would slowly crack as you started to get to know each other. he’d tell exaggerated stories of things that happened on tour, ask you about your family, your art, the places you’ve been to and grew up.
and you let him in with open arms.
eventually, it was time to close, and mike offered to walk you out. coworkers said goodbye and headed out with their bags as you cleaned the last of the tables, made sure doors were locked and things were put away.
“it’s cold, isn’t it?” mike asked, opening the door for you.
“not really.” you giggled, acknowledging that he just wanted to keep making small talk.
“okay. well,” he started again, “i’m playing at the echo friday night. i can obviously get you a ticket, but i was wondering if you’d wanna do something after?”
you paused for a second, pretending to consider. “it’s a date. i’ll text you.”

When It Swells - George Rose
Releases January 19th, 2026
My second album after a year of making music. It has been such an amazing journey. So many fun times so many sad times. I’m glad I saw all this through. I had been wanting to make music since I was very young, and didn’t know when or where or how to start, but I’m glad I never gave up on any of my dreams and stayed true to myself.
Although the spark of it all came from something crazy, im glad that im not only on the other side of that, but i am actually really good too. This time there will be a lot more promotion with this album, it was a lot more intentional than IWEST because im no longer working in the dark. I’m confident in my skills and I know, i can make it. If I keep my foot on the gas. I’m excited for the world to hear everything.
