He had the other right where he wanted him - in his bed. After flirting with one another during the celebrations, Marcus had finally brought him back to the cabin and now he stood just in his door way, shirt off to expose his muscular frame as he stared at the man on his bed. “Don’t be shy on me now,” Marcus teased, letting his hands reach the top of the door frame as he looked over at the other man. “Go ahead and get undressed… Let me see what I’m going to be working with tonight.”

“C'mon, you know you wanna give the winner a kiss,” Marcus mused as he hovered over the other, the celebrations clearly going over his head as he stared down at them. Having people cheer his name, celebrate when he got a win, was not something new to the mixed martial artist, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t something he enjoyed all the same. And the way people looked at him after he had dominated the hand to hand combat - as to be expected - even against a couple of sons of Ares… Well, it had him hot.
And that made him want to celebrate the best way he knew how.
“I saw the way you were staring at me when I had my shirt off… You want me. Don’t deny it.”

Having only been to the island for a couple of months, the former mixed martial artist couldn’t help but be on cloud nine after his team won. But of course his team won. It had him and his house, his brothers, in it, and that just meant that there was a high chance that they were going to win. And hell, Marcus loved the challenge of it. He might not have had any experience with a sword, but when it came to the hand-to-hand combat? He knew that he had that in spades. It was, after all, how he made a living.
And now that the games were over and red team was declared the winner, and the celebrations were in play, he was easily having fun. Bouncing between house to house, seeing what they were serving - and who he could party with - he managed to make his way to the bonfire when someone approached. A cocky smirk pulled at the corners of his lips as he looked at them, eyes roaming over their frame for a few moments, before he tilted his head to the side.
“You coming to congratulate the winner?”

Je me souviens de la discussion que j’ai eue hier avec Marcus. Il est venu me voir à Lausanne et nous avons profité du beau temps pour discuter de nos projets respectifs. Marcus est un ami que j’apprécie énormément. Nous discutons souvent du panafricanisme, de la question de l’identité et de nos projets en tant que philosophes.

Hotel Response: Marcus
This one is a blind watch, I’ve never even heard of it. The premise sounds awesome, I’m very much for the idea of it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of those films that was very hard to get through. The cinematography is great, with these eerie, fluorescent hallways playing with shadows, but the story feels like it’s all buildup with no payoff. Never feels like it really got going.
There is nearly 70 minutes of careful groundwork (Irene notices she looks exactly like the missing girl, the boss keeps telling her to “check the basement,” and there’s a weird cave witch legend) but then the clock runs down and nothing happens. It stays vague and quiet, leaving you with a bunch of imagery that allows viewers to imprint whatever meaning they want simply because the film refuses to commit to a reveal.
Which SOUNDS great, but it’s just not fun to watch. I was really struggling by the end.
That said, I once was told that “the best horror lean into everyday relatable feelings of fear”, and I think Hotel (2004) isolates the creeping discomfort of starting a job you immediately realize is a bad fit. That sinking feeling of being the “unwelcome outsider” while your boss gives you a tour, the apathy of your weird colleagues, and the horror of being trapped in a mundane role, that’s real life. It captures the anxiety of being the new person who feels like a hassle to everyone else. this works. But as a horror fan, I wanted a heavier dose of the supernatural or the psychological, not just a girl who can’t stop taking her glasses off and putting them back on.
Ultimately, it’s a cold, alien, and lethargic experience. It’s a series of fantastic, lonely shots that never develop into a compelling narrative. I wanted to shout at Irene to stand up for herself, but the film’s “artsy meandering” just wouldn’t allow it. Great atmosphere, but I really would have loved if anything had actually happened.

This story may have crossovers particularly from True Blood (specifically Godric and Eric), Sinners (Remmick, Stack and Mary) and Vikings (Ragnar, Ragnarsson’s, Lagertha, Aslaug, Floki and Helga). I have not added these to the tags for the sole reason that they are currently not part of the story, when/if they become part I will add their tags at that point.
