One of the most heart wrenching things I’m dealing with related to my me/cfs right now is how my brain has been trained into avoidance so much in the last year.

I’ve been struggling to get myself to start my homework even when I’m full of dread about putting it off and I feel ready to do it— because enough times in the past it exhausted me, and I get emotionally invested, and someone was incredibly mad at me when I didn’t finish, so my brain has stopped letting me start. I avoid going on dates or reaching out to irl friends because I know eventually they’ll want to see me again, and I won’t be able to leave my house to do it. I’ll let them down, or lose the connection, and that will hurt more and make me more sad than if I just don’t try. Even simple things like taking a walk midday to get some fresh air— when every time you try, you come back woozy and wobbly knee’d and can’t think straight for another three hours, your brain stops asking for fresh air. You can want to do something so bad it aches, but doing it feels like getting yourself to put your hand on a hot stove.

This is why I’ve always wondered what Garnet thinks about Pearl and Rose’s relationship, because she helps Greg, and contradicts what Pearl insists about fusion, saying true connection is about something very different.

Did she watch Rose and Pearl through the centuries with a dissatisfied look on her face? When other humans came along that Rose simply played with and discarded, clearly relishing making Pearl jealous, all of it something of a fun game to her, did Garnet ever try to intervene? Was Greg simply something new that she sensed could mean a lot to Rose, or was it something more?
