Lantern day 2 progress
Finished up the wire frame and started the process of covering it up. I’m trying to use materials that I have to hand so … toilet paper + flour-based wallpaper paste it is #reducereuserecycle
The main issue im facing just now is the fact that toilet paper disintegrates once it gets wet so I’m having to adjust my method to account for that. Currently using a small amount of wallpaper paste to attach a strip of paper to the wire at an angle, then coiling the rest of the strip around the wire while it’s still dry. Once it’s applied I cover the coiled strip with paste to stop it from coming undone.
I reckon I’ll have to do at least two layers to get the stability and smoothness that I want. The covered sections of double wire currently look pretty bulky, so I might intentionally dissolve some paper in paste to make something more adjacent to a clay that I can apply to the rougher areas.
Also probably didn’t need to make a whole cup of wallpaper paste. I dont think I’ll end up using more than half for the full project.
Wallpaper paste recipe: 1 cup water, 2 tbsp flour. Mix thoroughly and microwave for 30s at a time until it is thoroughly thick and gloopy.
Materials: Iron wire, toilet paper, wallpaper paste

progress day 1 of making a wall-hung lantern to fit a pre-owned lightbulb + cable
I started the project by making a frame in wire onto which i could fasten further structural and decorative elements. The frame contains a hook which will be hidden once the lantern has been finished. The socket slots into a wire holder which is attached both to the frame and front of the light to make it more stable.
My original design/sketch only included the swirly elements, which are intended to partially block the light and give the lantern structure, texture, and visual interest. However, as I was punishing my fingers by coiling iron wire by hand I realised that there was still a chance that I might complete the project without nerve damage to my hands. The bright idea to add a sun-shaped embellishment with seven meticulously coiled rays was sure to cement the severe pain and resulting (permanent?) loss of sensation in my finger tips. As a happy bonus, it also transforms the design from abstract swirls to a sun rising out of swirling clouds, which I think is fitting for a lantern.

Woman much missed, how you call to me, call to me, saying that now you are not as you were when you had changed from the one who was all to me, but as at first, when our day was fair.
