MIGHT IS RIGHT?

by Bill Kochman

https://www.billkochman.com/Poetry

They claim that might is right,
If you’re an enemy take heed,
But if we embrace the Gospel,
We adhere to a different creed.

Peace thru strength we’re told,
Is what keeps the evil at bay,
Yet Jesus set down His code,
And taught us another way.

Although we are in this world,
All its wars are not our own,
We must trust God to keep us,
And claim His protection alone.

Violence is not for a Christian,
Leave it to the children of men,
Seek peace in all your ways,
And God will bless you then.

No, don’t engage in their wars,
Hold to the Gospel of peace,
Perhaps after so much dying,
All violence will finally cease.

On February 28, the girls’ school, Shajareh Tayyebeh, located in the city of Minab, Iran, was bombed by the United States. The blast destroyed the two-storey building, causing the roof to collapse on students and teachers inside.

At least 170 people, most of them children, were killed. Dozens of others were injured.

While Iran immediately attributed the strike to the US-Israel coalition, both nations denied responsibility.

Satellite images showed the school intact earlier that morning. US and Israeli air raids had begun across Minab and other parts of Hormozgan that morning.

Footage from the scene suggests the school was likely hit by a Tomahawk missile.

“Based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran,” Trump said on Saturday. “We think it was done by Iran because they are very inaccurate, as you know, with their munitions. They have no accuracy whatsoever. It was done by Iran.”

Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, was standing behind Trump at the time. He declined to endorse Trump’s assessment and instead reiterated that the Pentagon was investigating the incident.

However, The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the school was hit by a US Tomahawk missile because of a targeting error. The newspaper, citing US officials, said the investigation was ongoing, but preliminary findings indicated the US was responsible.

At this point, I don’t know what’s worse: the totalitarian theocratic regime, or the United States and Israel killing as many people as they can.

By the way, I do not see people from Free Palestine talking about this war. What happens? Isn’t it popular enough?

Fuck people who support killing innocent individuals.

Even if it’s “for the environment.”

That does not make it ethical.

Also it’s not their fault that they are invasive in the first place.

Why should they pay for crimes that they did not commit on their own accord?

Why should they suffer?

Humans are the most invasive species there is on this planet and yet I doubt the majority of people would support culling of them.

You might be one of the individuals killed then. Suddenly it matters to you.

But you did not choose to be born. You cannot choose your own species.

Neither did they.

How about you grow some damn logic and compassion and stop thinking that violating rights is fine simply because they look different from you?

Humans are moral agents, we can reason, we can act differently. We claim to be better than other animals and civil, yet here we are, trying to justify harming others without even as much as a second thought. Acting barbaric because of what? Whims? Wanting to? Are we nothing but cavemen still, in the year 2026?

It’s not just “sad” and I am not being “squeamish” about it. I am simply questioning the rush to violence people get as soon as the victim is different from us.

Maybe you should, too.

From Stranger Things to Killing Eve: why TV shows should only be one season long | Television

Though it aired almost two months ago, fans are still angry about the Stranger Things finale.
So disappointing was the wrap to the five-season sci-fi that its cast are still having to deny that there is an upcoming secret final episode. I was not remotely disappointed, however. I thought the show ended perfectly: when I stopped watching it after season one, episode eight.
I’m going to come out…
