Hi J,
Wala lang, masaya lang akong nakausap ulit kita after a decade. Wow.
Maraming salamat, J! Ingat lagi.

Honestly, I’m not surprised how much Korea rallied behind J**** M*****-S***… .
That cult mentality is wild
Psalm 91:11
Even when you think all is lost and that you have fully fallen with no catch, one of the good flying messengers will fill/sweep in and may literally or metaphorically take hold of one of your body parts with a wing/wings.
Or..you may just hit rock bottom on a soft landing & people in real life or online may intervene whether it be intentionally or unintentionally on their behalf.
Either way, He (Jesus | Yahweh, Lord, God, Christ, Messiah, Father, Son & Holy Spirit) will NEVER truly leave your side.
You just have to have hope, faith, & above all love.
Bruh I accidentally made someone swear off reading the JMS run of the amazing spider-man by mentioning it ends with one more day. Really tried to sell it to em but nah they ain’t touching it…bringing up sins past didn’t help either.

Thirty years ago, when Babylon 5 had just started airing, jms made a comment on Usenet or somewhere about what the series would hold, if he managed to tell the whole story. Basically a summary of the whole thing, told flatly enough to not really give spoilers, but more than enough to whet the appetite.
I don’t suppose anybody could link me to it? While all that stuff is archived, I don’t remember enough of the specific phrasing to find the comment. There are just so many comments, and so many words.

He’s right, longer seasons do not automatically result in better storytelling or characterisation. I’ve watched plenty that were just pure wheel spinners as the writers killed time until they had to do something big for sweep week. And rather than result in more innovative storytelling it would result in burnout or Kim Bauer getting caught in a cougar trap. At the same time I’ve seen seasons that have blown my mind with how much the writers managed to fit into just six episodes. The ideal situation is that writers be given the exact number of episodes they feel they need to tell the stories they want, not to fill out airtime or satisfy binge habits.

I can’t find it when I try to search for it, but hopefully others can!
I just finished JMS’s Spider-Man run and good fucking god now I understand most of what current fans/readers are complaining about. The JMS run is the vast majority of the Spider-Man I’ve read. Looking back on it, I think the only other Spider-Man issues I’ve read were a part of Dark Web.
I lack the perspective that other fans have, since this is the only run I’ve read. But I honestly think most of it was good, and the few bad parts just weigh as much or more than the good parts. Sins Past and One More Day are atrocious, and it’s a tragedy only one has been retconned so far. I actually skipped halfway through Sins Past. Two issues into the arc, I couldn’t take it anymore and skimmed the remaining pages and looked to Google for how it concluded. And I chose to skip One More Day in its entirety. I knew shit was getting crazy when Peter was resorting to criminality to save Aunt May, and when I saw the final arc of Omnibus 5 was named “One More Day,” I decided to google it, because that sounded familiar. And thank god I did, because that’s how I learned that it contains Peter and MJ’s divorce.
I can’t say much more than has already been said by countless fans, especially since I lack their perspective of having read more Spider-Man comics, but I can still add to the pile of criticism even if my criticism isn’t especially original.
Peter and MJ’s marriage, put simply, *worked.* It felt like a natural progression of the characters. And on top of it functioning as good writing, it’s what the fans had wanted for decades prior! Ending it is a terrible decision that worsens the Spider-Man plotline and alienates readers.
All in all, I appreciate the JMS run, but can’t overlook Sins Past and One More Day, even if we were fortunate enough to get Sins Past retconned. The run’s good and even phenomenal issues cannot be evaluated without acknowledging the gigantic elephants in the room. What a fucking run.
