GCSE vs IGCSE Explained: Syllabus, Assessment, Grading & Recognition | The Profs
Choosing between GCSE and IGCSE? This clear, student-focused breakdown helps you decide quickly and confidently. Dickson—our award-winning Maths and Economics tutor—compares syllabus structure, assessment style (coursework vs exam-only), grading scales, exam timing, and how schools, sixth forms and universities recognise each qualification. You’ll see how subject choice, exam availability (UK vs international settings), and support resources can affect results and progression to A level.
We also cover the practical implications: what the typical question styles look like, the role of calculators and formula sheets, how grade boundaries tend to behave, and which route suits students who prefer continuous assessment versus high-stakes final exams. Dickson’s track record speaks for itself: 84% of his A level students achieve A*–A and 100% of his GCSE students achieve Grade 7 or above, with many progressing to Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL and KCL.
