Genetics 🧬 in Hogwarts Legacy
Hello my fellow witches and wizards! 🧙♀️
This might be a bit of a ramble, so please bear with me. If you know anything about genetics this might make more sense, but if not I’ll try to explain my idea the best I can.
I’ve been thinking about the genetics behind Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy and how it might be passed down to children.
Ancient Magic is extremely rare. Only certain MC characters—like my character April and Lyla—can see and wield it. Lyla belongs to @keri-mcberry, so if you’ve never heard of her you should definitely check her out.
The interesting part is that their partners—Poppy Sweeting and Sebastian Sallow—do not have Ancient Magic.
So that made me think about the genetics behind it.
My theory:
• If both parents had Ancient Magic, the chances of their children inheriting it would be much higher.
• If only one parent has Ancient Magic, the chance becomes extremely small—but it’s still possible.

Example 1 – Lyla and Sebastian
• First child: Susanna → did not inherit Ancient Magic
• Second child: Liam → did inherit Ancient Magic

Example 2 – April and Poppy
• First child: Evangeline → did not inherit Ancient Magic
• Second child: Eleazar → did not inherit Ancient Magic
• Third child: Autumn → did inherit Ancient Magic

So in both families, most of the children didn’t inherit it—but one child did, even though the chance was very slim.
This idea actually started thanks to Keri. She came up with the concept, and it made me start thinking about the genetics side of it. I just expanded on it with ideas like dominant traits, recessive traits, and polygenic traits.
I really enjoy thinking about genetics and how it could work in worldbuilding. School only teaches the basics, so a lot of this is stuff I’ve taught myself because I find it fascinating.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble! This is just something I thought about a couple days ago and wanted to share.
The pictures that you see the one on the right was drawn by @keri-mcberry herself this is an old photo of April when April was first drew. I think Keri was the first person to draw April which again thing you so much. The one on the left was drawn by me of drawing Lyla.
