In most cases where Hopsalot’s full name is used, it is written as a single word. However, there have been some instances of it being written as “Hops-A-Lot”, and even more rarely, as three seperate words, “Hops A Lot”, the latter of which is shown in the bottom screenshot of a certificate from JumpStart Learning Games Phonics.

A particular commonality that CJ, Eleanor, and Hopsalot share is that they are the only JumpStart main cast characters to recieve nicknames used within the games. With CJ, his full name has varied over the series, with ‘Calaveras Jumper’ being one example of what CJ could stand for, so although he is most commonly referred to as CJ, this could still be considered a nickname for him. Eleanor has occasionally been referred to as “Ellie”, mainly in the JumpStart Advanced series. Hopsalot had the nickname “Hops” applied to him occasionally in the late 90s and early 2000s, before it became his default name in the JumpStart 3D Virtual World series and onwards.

Due to his name ending in S, there could be some question of how to write it in the possessive form, either as Hops’ or Hops’s. Both spellings have appeared in the JumpStart MMO. Examples of this include Hops’ JetPack, which uses the former, and a sign that says Hops’s House in the Neighborhood, which uses the latter.
