Cider and apples. Sounds simple. Cider is made from apples. Right? Well it’s more complex. For example what should be a minimum juice content in cider? Let’s compare that to this question to understand the insanity of even thinking this. “What is the minimum juice content in wine?” The latter is easy - 100%. Even that truly horrible British wine is made from 100% imported grape juice concentrate. So why in Britain is the minimum 35% and the EU is planning 50%? 🤷 Easy answer is big business wants it. Why? There are big wine businesses and they are not lobbying governments over the grape must content. My answer is that we as consumers want a cheap product; and without mandatory juice content labelling this is the way brewers and cider makers achieve that value proposition. Little do we know is that the probably make a larger margin that way. I placed brewers before cider makers above deliberately. There are more brewers than cider makers in the mass cider market. They basically are another fruity beer and commoditised at 5% alc/vol #wine #beer #cider #perry

The Lost Abbey’s Jesus, Mary, & Joseph IPA on tap at the Lost Abbey Church in Downtown San Diego. A 3 of 4. Smells of orange citrus and other tropical notes, and has a nice hazy body with just a slight softness and creaminess on the palate. Nice color (helped by the nice light in the former church), and drinks quite easily.
