Sssshhh ignore the timeline here.
and the computer bs i just made up

Yes my OCs can make cameo appearances shush!

Sorry this will be whack it’s been in the drafts for years at this point 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

It’s your first day back!

Walter C. Dornez x HR Department! reader

It felt nice to be back home after a nice, long holiday. The on-site psychiatrist recommended some time off after the Valentine Brothers attacked the manor. It was your first vampire attack that wasn’t Alucard. But a nice trip to California, meeting old friends, took your mind off the fact that a lot of your coworkers were brutally murdered.

Back in your office, there was a fresh, clean scent of lavender. Your desk and shelves were neatly organized, unlike the organized mess you were used to. Even your Garfield office phone looked as if it were polished. You didn’t realize it until you sat down, but your computer was new and improved.

“It’s impressive isn’t it?” You jumped at the familiar voice. Walter C. Dornez was standing in the doorway holding a tray with tea and other snacks.

“Did you install this while I was away?” You asked.

“Why yes, I saw you were behind on updating your computer. Then I thought, “ Oh, I’m sure they would appreciate a newer model.” Walter went on to explain the new specs and how they compare to your old computer. Although you got lost in thought. Finding Walter’s voice comforting, along with his violet eyes, and how you liked the way his smile lines became more pronounced as he stated his favorite features on the computer.

“I do recommend running the updates whenever they appear. You can always use my computer to look up alien conspiracy theories. You know my office is always open for you.” Walter’s voice took a lower tone at the last sentence.

You couldn’t tell if your face was flushed from Walter finding out you spend your lunches reading up on alien conspiracy theories. Or if it was the fact that he offered his computer to you for personal use. You really wanted to take up his offer.

Finally, you remembered the tray of tea and snacks on the desk. “Is that for me?” You asked.

“Starting your first day back with a hot cup of tea is very important.” You watched his gloved hands carefully pour the hot tea into the white cup. His movements were so fluid. “I take it you had a nice holiday visiting your mother and old friends, hm?”

“Yes my mum had been asking me to visit for a long time.” You remembered that you didn’t mention to Walter that you were seeing old friends during this holiday. Maybe it was just an assumption? This isn’t the first time that you noticed Walter knew something that you didn’t tell him. Like on your first day, he knew that your mother was American and lived in California. He did mention he recognized your accent as he had old friends in California as well. And how he knew your favorite tea was lemon ginger with honey.

You took a sip of the hot lemon ginger tea. Feeling your insides relax pushing away the usual anxiety that sits in your stomach. “This was perfect Walter.”

“I’m glad, you deserve a nice cup tea.” There was something about his soft smile that made you feel heat rise in your cheeks. Whatever this feeling was you felt compelled to suddenly start going on about your holiday. About what you and your friends did. And it was surprising that your friend’s parents remembered you.

“How can anyone forget someone as lovely as you?” You could listen to Walter all day.

But alas your time together ended as you both had other duties to tend to. How bad can it be that you are attracted to your Human Resources manager? As long as you keep those feelings to yourself it should be fine.

But could you keep those feelings buried forever?

Real questions for fanfiction writers:

How do you promote your fic?

Tumblr? Just through tags on AO3 or Wattpad or Fanfic.net? Bluesky? Twitter? Insta? I have no idea how.

Another question:

How far out do you post your chapters?

Like, how many chapters should you have written and how far ahead should you have planned out before you post your first chapter and start your fanfic? Like, I have a general plan and the first 5 chapters planned out but nothing written yet. Should I have all 5 written before posting the first one and continuing the story past chapter 5 in the background? Or should I have more?

Last question and this is for ANIME SPECIFIC fanfiction writers:

Is it hard to promote your fic with no art? And when writing is it hard to describe things that look amazing animated in words?

Anime hits different because of the art. I love love stories and good stories are why I watch anime. I love the art too and I love the action but I stay for the story. I want to still be able to get that interest from my readers that an artist would with an animated short. And specifically for the one I’m writing about, Hellsing Ultimate, that’s an action heavy and aesthetic anime. I want to capture that.

Like….. how do I capture this in words?

I’ve written one fanfic before and it was a Sherlock fanfic.

It actually got a lot of views and readers liked it a lot. I have a few ideas in my head also, but this one is the one I have much more planned out. It was years ago. I’m not writing for praise or number of views, but i do want it to be read. Best advice?

Thank you so much ❤️🙌

Now im curious if there’s any other good animes with hell in the name that I haven’t watched yet since I’ve started a pattern, might as well continue it once I finish Hell’s Paradise.

Eternal Night, Chapter 4

Sharp clangs of metal echoed through the vault as Selene fought against the magical puppet. She raised her sword and blocked the incoming strike, gritting her teeth and hissing at the force she did not quite anticipate. Her boots began to slip against the stone floor as she struggled to hold her ground.

I have to dial it back next time-

She winced as sharp pain surged through her left wrist.

“Stop!”

The puppet instantly relaxed and took a step back. Selene lowered her sword and held up her wrist. The puppet’s sword had not touched it, so a wound had not been the cause of the pain. The immortal frowned when she saw her left arm begin to tremble and attempted to flex her fingers. She could not move them enough to form a fist.

“That’s enough for today.” She lowered her arm. “Return to rest mode.”

The puppet placed its sword on a shelf, then returned to its seat in the corner of the room. Selene sighed, returned her sword to its case, and left the weapons vault. She began to make a mental list of tasks as she walked towards her room: a bath, some tea, medicine if her wrist still ached, something to eat, probably…

Bark!

Selene paused and turned around to see a familiar black hound trot over to her. Its red eyes sparkled with pride and it carried her basket in its mouth.

“Oh, hello, Baskerville,” Selene patted the creature’s head. “You must be hungry after your journey. Would you like a treat?”

The dog barked again and wagged its tail happily. Selene hummed and changed her route, heading to the kitchen. She instantly began cooking a meal of lamb for the hellhound as it sat nearby, its unblinking crimson eyes watching her every move.

“Here you are.” she set a dish of the meat as well as a dish of water on the floor. “You are an excellent messenger. Thank you.”

Baskerville nuzzled her hand, then set the basket down and began to devour the food. Selene retrieved the basket, set it on the counter, and pulled a letter from within it. Carefully, she broke the wax seal and began to read.

August 19th, 1791

My Lady Selene,

I have safely returned to my castle. Thank you for the bottles of blood you prepared for my journey - they certainly made the trip more comfortable. I have sent your basket with Baskerville and I do hope it returns to you in the same condition it was in when you lent it to me.

I have planted the galaxy roses in the center of my courtyard and I must say, they certainly brighten the area. Thank you for such a wonderful gift. I cannot wait for the day in which in the stunning flowers bloom. Truly they are as beautiful as the one who created them.

I do hope you are doing well and that loneliness has not consumed you. I promise, I will visit you again soon. Until that day, do not forget to rest, my lovely guardian.

Yours,

Vlad

Selene set the letter on the counter and turned back to Baskerville, who had just finished his meal. The hound looked up at her, its ears perked in curiosity.

“I’m glad he made it back home safely.” She hummed as she pet the creature. “You may rest, Baskerville. I’ll send the shadows with a letter.”

He nuzzled her hand one more time, then sank into deep shadows and vanished. Selene cleaned up the dishes, then returned upstairs to resume her list of tasks. Her wrist still ached as she went through the motions of bathing and dressing, yet it didn’t hurt as much as it had earlier.

I can probably get away with it for the night. I shouldn’t need medicine unless it gets worse…

After eating a small dinner of stew and bread, Selene carried a tray of tea back to her room. She sat at her desk, pulled some stationery towards her, and thought for a moment. What to say…?

August 26th, 1791

Dear Vlad,

I am relieved to know you made it home safely. Baskerville made the journey here safely and returned the basket in excellent condition. Although, next time, you’re more than welcome to keep it as I have multiple.

As for the galaxy roses, I am glad to know they have brought you joy. Do not forget to tend to them. I have made them to be resilient, but they must still be watered regularly. The rosebush I gave you is still young, but the flowers should bloom around the time of the autumn equinox (these roses bloom regularly, oftentimes remaining in bloom for two to three months before becoming dormant for the same period of time).

I am doing well. In the week since your departure, I have aided the villagers with cleaning up and repairing the damage left by the storm. I have also been quite busy mixing remedies for those whose illnesses and disabilities worsen in less favorable weather. Perhaps a small break will arise, but within a few weeks the harvest season will begin. During that time, I tend to my own gardens and prepare my own stores of medicine and food for the winter as well as assisting the villagers with their preparations. I almost do not know which season is busier: autumn with its harvest or winter with its illnesses and cold.

I will admit, no matter how busy the autumn season it, it happens to be my favorite time of year. The rich colors of the leaves, the cool, crisp air, the abundant harvest and celebration, and the village’s All Hallows celebration. I do find that particular celebration to be of the most fun, but a part of me has always been closely connected to the realm of spirits and death. It is always interesting to see what sort of celebrations and traditions the villagers have, especially when we receive new members. I suppose we shall see.

I hope you are doing well, my new friend.

Yours,

Selene

Selene read through the letter to check for spelling errors, then sealed it with silver wax. She walked to the balcony doors, stepped outside, and gave a piece of her power to the shadows. Dark mist swirled before forming the physical shape of a dark raven with violet eyes.

“Safe journey, my friend.” Selene murmured as she handed the letter to the shadowy bird. “Once you’ve made your delivery, you may return to your normal form.”

Yes, Mistress.” the shadows whispered.

The shadow raven ruffled its wings, then soared off into the night. Selene watched it vanish beyond the mountains, then sighed and returned to the solitude of her room.

I should get some rest before all the craziness begins.

———————————————————————————

The harvest season arrived quick and left just as fast. Crops had been dried, canned, and stored, fields had been tilled, and firewood had been stacked high. Fortunately, no one had become too injured this year, so Selene did not need to tap into the extra blood from her clinic just yet. The worst injury of the harvest season had been a mild concussion, which had been easy enough for the immortal guardian to heal.

A shiver passed through Selene’s body and she drew her shawl tighter around her shoulders. The first snow of the year had begun to fall, making the world seem even quieter than usual. The quiet immortal glanced out of the observatory window and down at the warm glow from the village.

The winter holidays will arrive soon enough…

Just as she turned back to continue organizing star chart scrolls, a tap sounded at the window. She turned to find a large black bat with red eyes hovering outside. Quickly, she opened the window, allowing the familiar to escape the cold. Instantly, the creature landed on her shoulder and relaxed. Selene gently pet the creature, then took the letter.

December 3rd, 1791

My Lady Selene,

I sincerely hope you are well. I wished to visit you during the holidays, however I am unable to travel. Winter and snow has all but consumed my home as well as the mountains. I promise, I shall visit you the moment the snow and storms vanish.

I do have a question for you. Due to the snow and cold, I placed the galaxy roses back into a pot and brought the bush into the castle. It seems to be faring well, but I wonder: is there anything I should do to help it survive the cold of winter?

I do hope you are well and I hope you are staying warm in this harsh winter.

Yours,

Vlad

Selene walked back towards the table and moved her current star chart to the side. The bat familiar remained on her shoulder as she pulled paper towards her. The creature slowly raised its head as the immortal dipped her pen into ink and began to write with elegant, curled letters.

December 10th, 1791

Dear Vlad,

The castle is a touch chilly, but it is bearable. Snow has just begun to fall in the valley, but it could remain for a while. It seems each year is different from the last regarding how much snow we receive. I hope we do not have a result similar to last year — nearly two meters of snow in some areas. The blizzards that occasionally befall this valley truly are brutal.

As for the roses, simply keep them watered as normal. If the bush continues to grow, move it to a larger pot so the roots have more space. In the event the leaves appear dull or withered, you may provide extra nutrients by mixing natural materials such as old leaves or vegetable trimmings to the soil. I created galaxy roses to be fairly resilient, so try not to stress over their care too much.

I hope you remain safe and warm through this harsh weather, my new friend. Should any misfortune befall you, simply say the word and I will do my best to send a solution, whatever it may be.

I look forward to your visit in the spring.

Yours,

Selene

Selene sealed the letter and summoned a crow from her shadows to deliver it. After it vanished into the snowy night, the immortal returned to her room, still carrying her vampiric friend’s bat familiar on her shoulder.

You do realize you may return to your master, yes?” She asked the bat.

The creature chittered softly before nuzzling her neck. Selene hummed and pet the creature.

“Alright, you may stay. It would be nice to have a little company.”

The bat rested beside the silver haired immortal as she reclined in bed with a book. The silent snow outside the stained glass windows along with the coziness of the blankets and flickering candlelight created a deep serenity within the room. Slowly, the words on the pages blurred together as violet eyes drifted shut.

The bat nudged the book aside, then extinguished the candle on the bedside table. With a quiet purr, it squeezed under the blankets and relaxed in Selene’s arms.

For the first time in quite a few centuries, no memories or dreams disturbed Selene’s rest. Much like the snowy night, her rest and her mind existed within blissful silence.

Eternal Night, Chapter 3

Sorry this update took a while. I got a bit lazy.

———————————————————————————

The storm raged on for three more days before finally breaking and leaving the valley in silence. During those three days, Selene and Vlad had spent every evening together, playing chess in the parlor, reading in the library, or sharing stories of the past. One evening, they had even displayed a few powers to each other: Vlad with his power to summon bat familiars and a large black dog named Baskerville and Selene with her ability to create physical creatures from the shadows.

Now, the two walked around the damp castle grounds, observing the damage the storm left in its wake.

"All things considering, it could have been worse.“ Selene noted as she looked around the courtyard. "The ice storm last century caused much more damage than this.”

“The storm still left quite a mess.” Vlad said, kicking aside a fallen tree branch. “Would you like assistance cleaning up?”

“No, it’s all right. The shadows will tend to it. Maintenance of the castle and its grounds are one of the many things they do.” Selene hummed, leading him towards the side of the castle instead. “Come, I’ll show you the greenhouse.”

The vampire walked beside his new companion as she led him across the courtyard. The duo passed through an iron gate and entered an area of the grounds that appeared to be a garden blended into the trees of the surrounding forest. Vlad noted several different types of herbs and medicinal flowers in the area as they walked down the paved brick path.

“Did you plant all of these?” he wondered aloud.

“Most of them, yes. Some were already here.” Selene answered with a nod. “All the herbs and flowers you see grow naturally within this region. I merely located and transplanted them here for convenience.”

“I see. Do you use them to aid the people you watch over?”

“I do.” Selene confirmed. “Ah, here we are.”

Vlad turned his attention to the end of the path, where a large greenhouse stood. The walls appeared to be made of a dark colored wood, the windows diamond paned glass of purple and blue. The colors of the windows did not extend to the roof, which remained a clear, yet still diamond paned, glass.

Selene opened the door and stepped inside, immediately wandering off to check on the plants within. Vlad followed her, slowly walking and observing the many different types of flowers and herbs within.

One side of the greenhouse contained raised garden beds, which held herbs as well as a few fruit bearing shrubs. The opposite side had been divided in half: more raised beds on half of the wall while a large wooden table occupied the other half. Potted plants, both large and small, occupied the shelves lining the back wall of the space.

Vlad looked up at the last rays of twilight that fell through the glass ceiling and noticed dark green vines crawling along the supporting beams. Bits of white stood out among the dark leaves, yet they were tightly curled, not revealing the full flower.

“Lady Selene, what flowers are on those vines?” he asked.

Selene turned away from one of the black rose bushes and looked up.

“Oh, those are moonflowers.” she hummed. “The flowers close during the bright light of day and unfurl at night. They have always been one of my favorite flowers.”

“What other flowers do you favor?” he wondered, turning to her.

“I’ve always been partial to roses.” Selene answered, walking to a bush planted beside the wooden table. “I’ve always felt drawn to them, but could never pinpoint the exact reason why. Is it because of their beauty? Or perhaps their dual nature of delicate petals and harsh thorns? I do not know.”

“They truly are lovely flowers.” Vlad hummed in agreement as he glanced at one of the bushes with crimson flowers.

“Indeed.” Selene showed a small smile, then turned to inspect the bush before her. “Hm… despite not being watered for a few days, they appear to be fine.”

“What sort of plant is this?” Vlad walked over and stood beside her.

Awe struck him when he saw the unique plant. Pure silver leaves, which sprouted from deep purple stems, glimmered in the dim light. Velvet rose petals did not contain the usual crimson pigment, nor were they black like the others in the garden. These petals were a deep, rich midnight blue. Flecks of silver and gold glittered under the fading twilight, appearing almost like twinkling stars.

I never knew such stunning flowers existed in this world…

“These are of my own creation.” Selene answered as she grabbed a watering can from the table. “It took me nearly a century to perfect them. I call them galaxy roses.”

“They’re incredible…” Vlad breathed.

"You’re welcome to take some to your castle if you’d like.“ Selene said. "I have a few other bushes in their early growing stages. They should survive the trip.”

“Are you certain? You wouldn’t mind?”

"Not at all. Consider it a token of new friendships and good will.“ Selene mused.

"I would be a fool to decline a gift from you.” Vlad gave a small bow. “Thank you, Lady Selene. I promise to give you a gift as well.”

"There’s no need.“ Selene shook her head. "Your company is gift enough.”

“Are you certain?”

"I’ve resided in solitude for nearly nine hundred years, Vlad, and have had to bear the curse of immortality alone.“ Violet eyes met crimson as she spoke. "I have never wished to grow close to anyone because I have grown tired of watching people fade before my eyes. Now, you, one who shares my curse, has walked through my door. I grow weary of solitude, Vlad. Anytime you wish to grace me with your company will be gift enough to me.”

“Nine hundred years…” Vlad whispered, crimson eyes wide in shock.

“Give or take. I have lost track of the exact amount of years.” Selene sighed.

No wonder she appears so solemn and tired. She’s existed long before I ever became a creature of darkness, long before I was even born…

“You are giving me that look again.” Selene turned to potted plants at the back of the greenhouse.

“Why should I not feel sympathy for you? Every moment I spend with you, the more I come to understand why you are so solemn and tired. I may understand the curse of immortality, but I cannot fathom the loneliness of nine hundred years.” Vlad answered.

“Had I been left to this fate by forces outside my control, then perhaps I’d accept such sympathy. No, my fate is my own.” Selene carefully picked up one of the medium pots, which housed a small shrub covered in silver leaves.

“You chose this..?” Vlad frowned. “Why?”

Selene looked down at the plant in her arms as her violet eyes clouded over. Distant memories hazily played in her mind, whispers of voices she once knew echoing in her ears. Gently, she reached up and traced one of the silver petals.

Would she be proud of me for putting her lessons and unfinished experiments to use? The immortal wondered.

“Selene?”

She snapped from her daze and sighed.

“I suppose the easiest way to explain why I chose this path is out of obligation. So much has been left unfinished and I am the last one awake. Though everything has changed and the sands of time has buried all I once knew, I must endure. I cannot just leave it all to decay.” She answered solemnly as she began to walk out of the greenhouse. An empty pit gnawed at her chest as a weight dragged her heart down. “I will admit, I do wish to rest, but if I do…” she trailed off, unable to voice all her concerns to him.

There was simply too much he wouldn’t understand…

Vlad fell into step beside her and gently took the potted plant from her arms, allowing her to relax. Though the vampire still held many questions about his solemn friend, her past, and her decision to walk the night alone for so long, he decided to stay silent. After all, she seemed upset enough as it was…

I wish I could tell if she is deeply upset or simply solemn and reminiscent of her past. the vampire thought as the two walked back to the castle in silence. If only she’d display some sort of emotion…

———————————————————————————

“Safe travels, Vlad.” Selene said as she handed him a basket of blood bottles. “The earth and skies should be calm for several days, so you need not worry about another storm.”

“Thank you, Lady Selene.” The vampire bowed. “You have been a wonderful hostess. I shall send a letter when I return home.”

Selene smiled a bit at that. Even though she could simply ask the shadows or stars if he made it home safe, her new friend sought to reassure her with a letter.

“I’d appreciate that. Don’t forget: you are welcome to visit whenever you desire. My door will always be open for you.”

“My castle will be open to you as well, should you decide to travel beyond the valley.” Vlad extended his own invitation. “I know you have obligations here, but even guardians deserve a small vacation.”

“I shall consider it.” Selene murmured.

Vlad already knew what her decision would be, yet did not press further. He simply bowed again and prepared to depart on his journey. The vampire paused at the courtyard gate, casting one last look back at his new friend. Selene smiled softly, though there was a gleam of sadness in her eyes, and waved gracefully. Vlad waved back, then stepped through the gate and vanished into the shaded forest beyond.

Selene watched him leave, then lowered her arm, turned, and vanished back inside her castle.

Alone again…
