This distinctive hand mirror with its curved handle was first seen in the hands of Lucille Ball in the 1942 RKO film 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒊𝒈 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒕.
More than a decade later, an identical mirror appeared in 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝒂 𝑴𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒆, released by Twentieth Century Fox in 1953, this time held by Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall.
Is it the same prop? It’s certainly the same make, but is it the exact same piece?
Under the old Hollywood studio system, props typically stayed in-house. But RKO, known for its lower-budget B pictures did sometimes rent pieces. That may explain how this mirror crossed studio lines.
