I love the idea that there are multiple views of the Plegian faith related to Grima. For example, in our world people can have different interpretations of religion and two people can live their lives in completely different ways even if they practice the same religion. Take Christianity, for example: you can have someone who uses their faith as a reason to guide strict views on gender and sexuality, which another person can use their faith to preach acceptance.

In this way, I really like the idea that the Grimleal are potentially taking a harmful interpretation of the Plegian faith, but that perhaps there exists another interpretation of it, too. I won’t get tooooo much into what I think the other interpretation could look like as I plan to explore that more in The Blank Man, but seeing complexity in the Plegian religion is something I am really interested in.

Also, I LOVE your analysis of how the role of “hierophant” may suggest how the Plegian faith operates. To your point also of the hierophant “becoming” Grima (thus, a role that is earned), whereas the Exalt bloodline is “of” Naga (a role that is granted upon birth), it also brings up an interesting discussions of class/lineage/heritage/etc.

First, I am SO late to respond to this ask!! thank you for your patience while I’ve gotten my life together 🙏

In concept alone, I do think Risen King Chrom is fun way to take another look about the relationship between Robin/Grima and Chrom. While I don’t have many headcanons about Risen King Chrom, here are the few thoughts that I do have:

• I know we’re talking about risen king Chrom here, but a quick word on Grima. I believe Grima to be deeply possessive. It’s for this reason that I believe Grima brings back Chrom and has him operate as Risen King – if Grima can control Chrom and direct him as he pleases, then everything about Chrom becomes all about Grima. Like, to me, I don’t think it matters to Grima if Chrom isn’t the same as he was when he was living as long as Chrom belongs to him, ya dig?
• On that note, Grima making Chrom his second-in-command is almost an inverse of Robin and Chrom’s relationship before Robin is taken over by Grima. I feel like Grima would feel satisfaction from this, like Chrom is now serving him instead of the other way around (despite Robin and Chrom’s relationship not really being that way at all, but I think this is how Grima would view things).
• For Risen King Chrom, while he is controlled by Grima (and thus his individuality/agency is essentially stripped from him), I have to believe this is only possible because of how strong Chrom and Robin’s bond was to begin with. Like I feel like Grima twists that bond to ensure Risen King Chrom’s fealty to him.
• Unsure if this is confirmed by dialogue options or not, but I’m intrigued by the idea of Chrom not having his memories. In the same way that the Grima/Risen King Chrom relationship is a (kind of) inverse of the Robin/Chrom relationship, I could see Chrom dying and being brought back as a Risen messing with his memories, which could set the stage of the only “thing” being left about what makes him him is the bond he feels with Grima (Robin).

Anyways, those are my initial thoughts! As mentioned, I don’t have tooooo many thoughts on Risen King Chrom, but I hope this was enjoyable to read :)
