hello everyone, this is a side blog unrelated to my main or secondary blogs. in an ideal world, Simple Song is my personal growth and sustainability efforts. I don’t know where these efforts will lead, i don’t even know if they’ll get off the ground, but I have plans.
Plan the First;
get meat rabbit breeding pair or trio.
raise meat rabbit kits to maturity to have food for myself, my dog, and my family - if they want it.
use a mixture of forage and commercial rabbit foods to ensure that my buns are healthy. plan to increase forage as i get better at it.
butcher the rabbits and use every part. this means learning to tan, making bone broths, dehydrating parts for dog treats - or human jerky, canning, freezing, stewing, etc.
use tanned furs/leathers to make useful things. at the moment i want to learn to make slippers and mitts, but eventually i want to make other useful items that i can use, give away, or sell.
use rabbit poop, pee, and blood for fertilizer, possibly sell or give away fertilizer.
Plan the Second;
buy property. there is no way at the moment i can afford to buy any sort of property, but if i start saving now, i might be able to finance something in a few years. especially if i can sell rabbit things to subsidize my income. however, selling rabbit things is not a priority at the moment, just a potential side effect.
focus on property without existing houses - or houses that need to come down. lots of at least 0.5 acres is preferred, but not so big its unmanageable for one person.
pay property taxes to local Nation. begin - or continue - supplying Nation food bank with rabbit in a few forms.
build a home. depending on location, build an earthship or other similarly principled sustainable housing. in this house have root cellar, bedroom, indoor/outdoor rabbit warren, kitchen, living room and not much else.
home should have in it; grey and black water systems, solar heating/geo-cooling, solar power, rain water catching system, local and recycled materials.
Plan the Third;
build a chicken coop on property. coop must be safe from local predators including my dog-s. also build chicken and rabbit ‘tractors’ - movable 'cages’ that give access to the ground for free foraging.
build up soil. dependant on the state of the soil but, either full or partial hugelkultur - buried wood, manure, leaf and loam litter, topped by straw or more wood. use rabbit and chickens to help with this.
plant cover crops - use cover crops to feed rabbits and chickens.
plant several perennials and berry bushes - blue, rasp, Saskatoon, etc
plant a kitchen garden - herbs etc - and a food garden. focus on foods that do well in root cellars. i.e. potato, beets, etc.
at that point i don’t think i’ll be able to work in my current industry, but i should be able to get a part time, low stakes job to help pay for things like mortgage and… cows milk lol.
as i plan on being mostly urban - if rural small town type place - i don’t think i can get any dairy goats or a cow. i don’t really want chickens for butchery - happy to have them for eggs. but that might change after i get used to butchering rabbits.
i don’t want to get rich or anything, i want to survive, which does mean i’ll still have to make some money to pay off the property/taxes/etc, so i’ll have to sell somethings - even if it’s only my own labour. but i want the majority of my surplus foods to go to people who need it. food banks, family, new mothers, refugees. so long as you’re hungry, you’re welcome to my supplies.
i am pretty close to plan the first at the moment; i have bought rabbit meat to try - if i don’t like it as a foodstuff, i don’t think i can justify getting meat rabbits - and i’ve ordered some cages. once the cages get to me i can actually start looking at buns to buy.
plan the second is… much much more challenging. i have very little in savings at the moment and as a single person - in my industry - it will be a challenge to get financing on property… but i am keeping my eyes out for interesting land - there are a few parts of the country i’d happily buy in at the moment - and socking away any extra pennies.
plan the third is entirely contingent on plan the second. so. no movement there yet other than planning.
When you’re considering spending that kinda money - for me anyways - I wanna make sure I make a reasonable choice about storage but don’t wanna needlessly spend either. Appreciate everyone’s experiences!
“What role should universities play in equipping the workers of the future to solve the world’s most pressing problems? And, as we approach the 2020s, should we rethink the way education puts subjects into silos? The answers to these questions are being explored by an innovative new concept in higher education coming to the UK in 2020. The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS) - the first new university in the UK for 40 years - is taking a new approach to teaching and learning, with a cross-curricular focus on tackling the most complex problems facing the world.”
Tackling problems
“LIS says it will promote learning through ‘real-world challenges’ and includes knife crime - something that’s risen sharply in the UK since 2014 - in it’s list of potential topics. … Other issues the institution will look at range from designing a tool for companies to track palm oil supply to the ethics of editing mosquito genes using CRISPR technology to eradicate malaria - combining probabilistic thinking with international relations, ecosystems and genome editing.”
Skills for tomorrow
“Besides its problem-based curriculum, LIS will also teach students the key skills they need to survive in the modern world: including research methods, tech skills like data analytics and coding, and ‘softer’ skills like interviewing, critical analysis, creativity and collaboration. … But is it not yet clear whether students will want to take a punt on a different style of education, or whether they will continue to favour more traditional institutions or even decide to skip a degree altogether.”

Future-proofing is an increasingly popular trend for people building a new home. Many clients have an eye on the future as they plan their new homes, choosing a design that will suit their future lifestyle. Building a home that will cater to your changing needs will definitely save you money in the long-term. The challenge is to design the right house for your future, at a price you can afford now. One of the most important considerations in achieving this is choosing the right site.

Thinking about future needs makes sense when designing your home.
At Shadforth Lythgo, we like to be involved from the outset because the land you choose will affect the design. One of the biggest determinants to a successful home design and build is understanding your site. Deciding on a house design and then plonking it on a block of land is definitely not the way to achieve the best outcome.

Our sub-tropical climate demands careful positioning of your home to achieve maximum cooling. It is necessary to understand where the predominant breezes come from and design your home to capture that breeze. The orientation of the site is also vitally important and will influence where the rooms, windows, living areas, and decks will be placed. Western-facing rooms will need large overhangs for shade.

If the site is treed, the foliage can be used to provide shade and privacy, particularly to an outdoor area. The contours and levels of the site will also need to be considered. If the site is sloping, rainwater will need to be directed away from the house and will affect the placement of the home.

Designed with the land in mind.
Good design will always work with your chosen site, exploiting the positives and working around any negatives. We love to assist clients in choosing a site consistent with their end-vision.
Written by Devin Morrissey Whether it’s a flood, earthquake, or landslide, natural disasters are devastating to human society and we need to protect ourselves as they continue to strike. They can ruin carefully crafted roadways and buildings of all shapes and sizes — not to mention the havoc they wreak on human life. The severity and frequency of natural disasters are on the rise, and though they…
I’ve seen time again about discussions over graphics of realism and stylized art such as cel shading or pixel art. And this discussion is older than games itself, it also applies to paintings and photographs. You could see where more paintings started to move away from realism when photography filled that niche. And then came cycles of different styles such as impressionism and abstract art being two that are fairly recognizable.
I see the same trend in video game art styles. These waves of styles come and go, which means you can’t really future proof any game. When you lean towards the stylized aesthetic feel you avoid the problem where realistic games face with aging graphics. However, you can’t avoid current trends or saturations of similar styles.
On a similar note, you can see this happen in gameplay and design as well. Such as the Last Guardian, which has been pushed back and delayed for so long that you can actually feel the difference in the dated game camera controls.
The process with technology and style is ever changing, so it isn’t really possible to future proof a game. Instead focus on making sure what you want the player to perceive from the game is clear. And borrow from other visual media to make sure the style you’re portraying is consistent.
This all of course comes at a cost, as more attention to detail usually raises the production value quicker than returns are worth. You can only have two of the three; quick development, low cost, or good production.
Alright folks, this is a PSA for those that do not know yet! If you play BDO, and plan to in the next.. lets say year to be safe? Then this is for you.
Crystals and You: New Crystals Are Coming and they are fucking amazing!
They are stronger versions of the currently strongest crystals in the game - and require said strong crystals.
These are the new types I’m talking. They are all made in the same way: 1 Forest Fury - which isn’t out yet and is a kamasylvia region only item, 1 Black Magic Crystal of the type you are trying to enhance, and 10 magical shards.
Take note of my screenshot at the top. See how I had a shit ton of these shitty cheap crystals? Yeah. Any yellow quality Black Magic Crystal can be heated into magical shards. See where I’m going with this?
Lets take Cobelinus for example:
It boosts one of the stats that is part of the original crystal. So either HP, Weight or DP for BMC Cobe. This sounds great right?
WELL THE FUN DOESN’T STOP HERE!!!
The above crystals are all the ones that can be changed. Upgraded if you will. Check them out on the database yourself! :D
There’s also going to be these awesome crystals, that you cannot sell, and can only purchase from the cash shop. I know, I know, it sounds pay2win….and in a way it kind of is. Considering you ONLY can get them from the cash shop makes it kind of annoying and clearly a money grabbing scheme, but its also a Quality Of Life change for us.
These crystals give the effects of specific costumes. See below just one of them:
Da-Dum and desert camo is included in the above list as well. The Da-Dum gives 30 seconds breath and faster swim speed - like the costume, desert camo only gives the debuff resistance. Venia is the Velia riding outfit and gives 20% horse exp, Venecil is the processing outfit and gives increased chance to successfully process. Splat Fisher gives +1 fishing and faster swim speed.
But this is not where the crystals stop!
This is the craftable one. So, basically, you can get any of the craftable outfits, turned into a cash shop costume, then turned into a crystal for another costume to hold.
Speaking of costumes slots, there’s going to be a collectable that, after getting three of them(base market price roughly 1.2 mil silver on special deals), you …heat them? I think its heat them, together and it gives you the claw of.. something.. that when heated with the chest piece of a costume, gives it a costume slot.
Phew! That’s a lot of shit to take in! I’ll be posting this at a later date, so if you’re reading this; Now is the time to be prepping. Especially considering its RNG whether or not you actually get the crystals you want. Hoping for the 150 HP crystals imo. mmm more hp… Maybe the damage reduction ones though.. so many choices!!
I’ll leave you with this little screenshot from last night(3/16/2017):
Yeah, I’m prepping quite hard.. Hopefully this isn’t posting AS its coming out and you guys get time to prep too!
