vLog – Action Figure and Funko Pop Collectibles Shopping Trip at Galaxy Comics and Collectibles!

Join me as I visit Galaxy Comics and Collectibles for some action figures and Funko Pops!

Loads of selection and a ton of stuff from McFarlane Toys. Their comic book selection is also quite good and it is there I get my Nightwing comics from.

This trip’s shopping haul got me the Cyborg Superman Funko Pop Comic Cover and a Nightwing action figure from the New 52.

My girlfriend also cashed in her birthday gift from me so some other goodies were picked up for her, namely a Wonder Woman Funko and a She-Ra Princess of Power Funko.

Fun times. I’ll be back there as usual soon enough.

Thank you for watching Axiom-man TV.

Saturday Thoughts

Got the three Funko Pops I wanted to get signed, signed at LVLup Expo. Will need to bring something else beside my backpack to carry the Funkos in if I get anything signed in the future. It will make everything easier since I do need to let the ink dry on them before I put them back in their cases. Having something that rolls will make it so much easier. I saw a lot of people with either suitcases or carts bringing stuff into the con.

Monday Thoughts

It was a quiet Easter yesterday which was good. We did have a small family dinner and I got to see my niece who I have not seen for a while. Going to go to the museum today and get some volunteer hours in. I may go Thursday as well since I can not pick up my passes until after 12pm that day. I got some good tips for getting the three Funkos I want to get signed. Hopefully the signing go smooth and I do not have to much trouble.

Got some supplies to make some trinkets for Ren Faire. Going to use some of the supplies I had when I was going to make jewelry to sell. May still make some jewelry to sell since I do have a lot of earring hangers. Will give me a chance to be creative and use of some of the supplies I have. Going to start doing some painting and drawing. May even pick up some chalk to start working with. With it about to get hot out both of these activities will keep me out of the hot sun.

My new piercing is doing so good so far. Looking forward to when it is fully healed.

Superman the Man of Steel in TWO different Funko Pop Comic Covers. One is from Action Comics No. 644 and other is from Justice League of America No. 217.

These are really cool Pops! and are both unique in their own way. The grayscale Superman with all the shadows is swell, and the Superman in his classic red and blue tights and in flight? Super awesome!

The Justice League Funko is a Funko Exclusive. Really happy to have it and see Superman getting a bunch of different Comic Cover editions.

Funko Friday: Star Wars | The Mandalorian Funko Pops Big and Small

Here ya go! Big Funko Pop! Small Funko Pop! All Mandalorian from Star Wars! I love this character and when I pre-ordered the big one, I had no idea it would be as big as it actually was. It was a fun and pleasant surprise. The detail of both Mando and the N1 Starfighter are amazing and so is the droid R5-D4. He looks real good, too.

Awesome.

Hope you enjoy this big Funko to small Funko comparison!

Thanks for checking out these Funko Pops!

Funko Friday: Green Lantern and Geoffrey Toys R Us Superman Funko Pops

For something different this week, we take a look at a couple one-off Funko Pops, the Pops I collect because I like the character but don’t need to have every single version of them. In today’s case, we have Kyle Rayner Green Lantern and Geoffrey from Toys R Us as Superman. That last one was a hard find but I got it for a deal and it even came with a Funko Pop protector case! How cool is that?

Check this out, man. One-offs. They’re fun!

Funko Friday: Indiana Jones Funko Pops

I discovered Indiana Jones as a kid and have been a huge fan ever since. Sure, we all love the classic trilogy, but I don’t think they did too bad a job with the new installments either. Harrison Ford nailed the role of Professor Henry Jones Jr. aka Indiana Jones. He played the role serious despite some of the humor, and, if you pay attention, there is a bit of a dual identity thing going on as Dr. Jones acts one way as a professor but when given permission to go full archaeologist, suddenly Indy takes over and he’s the action hero we all love even when it’s him doing non-actiony things.

Funko Friday: 1960’s Spider-Man vs Spider-man Funko Pops!

What? Two Pops but one box? I thought Funko Friday was about showcasing two Pop Culture vinyl figures?

You’re right, and there’s two in this video. Two Pops, one box.

Spider-Man versus Spider-Man from the 1960’s plus a really brief tidbit about a kid in a Spider-Man costume.

Numerous Funko Adventures: How Do Funko Numbers Pop?!

We have a tale of adventure and mystery in the collecting world! Buckle up, because we’re going on a wild goose chase to unravel the secrets of Funko’s wacky numbering system. Will we uncover the method to their madness? Let’s find out!

At first, I admit my collector spidey-senses were tingling to decode the secret pattern! I scoured the Funko-sphere for the master list, the Rosetta Stone that connects each vinyl figure to its eccentric number. But alas, nothing of an official guide from Funko exists! How could this be? Is there order in the Funko universe?! When I stumbled upon anomalies, an unnumbered Pop or duplicate numbers on different characters, I cried: “Aha! Proof of Funko’s folly!”

Veteran collectors aren’t fazed about this. They tell me the numbers are more on the side of playful than precise. They also have tales of numbers shared between different characters in the same category and fandom and special editions gone rogue without digits. It seems to them that Funko’s priority is keeping things fresh and flexible, not maintaining a strict catalog. “Young grasshopper,” they tell me, “the numbers matter not! Just follow your Pop-loving heart. Set out with renewed vigor for convention floors, retail shops and online stores to seek the grails. Though the mysterious numbers taunt, there are treasures at every turn.”

In the end, I realized I should let go of logic and embrace the spirit of Funko wholeheartedly. Wise collectors know it’s about sharing the Funko love. What matters is hunting and trading Pops, gasping at rare finds and fandom team-ups. And if the riddle is solved one day, what an epic win! But for now, onward! There are new must-have Pops calling our name! Focus on the fun characters and pop culture icons that draw you in. The numbers may seem mysterious, but it leaves room for Funko to showcase their signature playful style.

Celebrating 25 Years from the Release of the Very First Pop! Isn’t the Only Exciting Thing for Funko in 2023

I think we’re witnessing some movement that’s shifting the entire trajectory of Funko and all its beloved product lines. I’m optimistic in this respect. I think everyone’s collection, rarest chase to most vanilla, might see value and rarity increase across the board. It’s a brave new world for collectors moving into 2024 and I’m betting everyone’s Pops will gain a rarity boost. After this year, I might propose referring to all Pops from ’98 to ’23 as “Mariotti Era.” Really, there is a huge shift happening and I think it only spells out huge benefits. Let me explain:

When I say “Mariotti Era,” I’m referring to the fact that now-former CEO Brian Mariotti stepped down from his role back in July. While he really just stepped aside and remained on the board, this move was in the aftermath of Funko’s stock unfortunately plummeting 70% from last year. That is no small disruption, that’s essentially a tank. The major cause of that sink is simply sales are down. I’m guessing that most collectors know by now that Funko also removed or destroyed $30 million worth of inventory.

Funko hasn’t been the only company that has had to remove inventory. Many brand supply chains wanted to ensure that through the coronavirus pandemic they could meet increasing demand without suffering losses due to empty shelves and backorders, i.e. stockouts. The classic bullwhip action occurred where Funko increased their inventory while at the same time the overall market slowed down.

The brighter side is that what Funko and every collector essentially wants, aside from not just owning a fun piece of their favorite pop culture genre, is that the value of their Pops either hold or increase. And that simply won’t happen when the market is oversaturated. Funko claimed they destroyed so many because the new distribution center was woefully overcapacity, having to rent out storage for the excess. Hence, greater net loss from inventory storage costs only made things more volatile.

Where the excitement arrives for every collector and Funko is that this kind of fiscal drama almost always moves companies to restructure and innovate a better product. And I think this fresh new collab they’re doing with Marvel and VeVe has potential to change things greatly. At New York CC, Funko introduces a new GOLD Iron Man as a mystery box collectible. Perhaps more interesting and cool, in my opinion, is that it comes with an NFT component. For anyone still kind of wondering what an NFT is, the best way I’ve heard it explained is that it’s like a unique and rare item or skin in a video game. No two are the same and this could be a big win for all collectors if Funko plans to expand the idea into more product lines.

According to Funko Blog, GOLD Iron Man will release October 18th this year as a limited 3,000 run with 5 versions: Classic Red and Gold (50% chance); Silver Suit (22% chance); Gold Suit (15% chance); Silver and Black Suit (12% chance); Black and Gold Suit (2% chance). Each mystery box includes a card that notes its number of 3,000 with a unique NFT code for a virtual render of the Pop.

It seems like this little product venture is sort of a test for what’s to come. Also, I wonder if this relates somehow to Funko Fusion coming out next year. I guess we’ll see how that rolls out. But I’m excited at the thought it’s a move in the right direction, specifically with collectors in mind. It has potential to increase value and lower concerns over chances the Pop you bought online is a fake. The entire concept of an NFT is that it’s unique and one of a kind. Honestly, how Funko hadn’t maximized this previously is a little confusing.

I believe this is great for all Pop collectors and Funko as a brand. The shaky market leading to miscalculations, disruptions and restructuring only make previous iterations and collectibles more valuable over time. There are many examples of this in the realm of collecting. It’s an exciting time!
