The screen flicks to life. A lone man can be seen sitting at a desk, his hair is a mess and there are light circles underneath his eyes. He rubs his face with his hands in what may be an attempt to wake himself up. Looking up at the camera, he speaks,
“This is Captain Dean Andrews, and it is currently 9:09AM on January 14. This is our first full day as a crew. Everyone else is asleep, but I’m sure they’ll be up soon. I’m trying to figure out what happened, but there isn’t much to work with. All I know is no one has responded and it’s been fourteen hours.”
Rustling can be heard off screen. Captain Andrews looks towards the source of the noise.
“Someone is awake now; I guess I’ll go check on them.”
Captain Andrews can be seen reaching towards the camera. The feed cuts out.
“My name is Victoria Sampson, and I am stranded in space with two untrained and uneducated interns. I don’t know what happened or why we’re up here, all I care about is getting back home. T, please, just respond so that we know you’re receiving these. I swear if you get us back down, we won’t sue, we won’t do anything to hurt your reputation. I just want to be back home. I’ll do anything.”
A woman in a white suit can be seen looking directly into the camera. As she speaks, her tone changes from arrogant to desperate. After her plea, she sits silently, the only thing that can be heard is the tapping of a pencil on the hard desk. She pushes the chair back, and unbuckles herself before standing up, she reaches out to turn off the camera. The feed cuts once more.
The feed comes to life. Something can be heard just off screen, an argument between a man and a woman. The woman comes through clearly. “It’s your fault we’re up here! I knew they shouldn’t have hired you, you don’t know anything.”
“Me? What the hell did I do?”
“You were the last one in. You were the closest to the door, so you tell me!”
Motion can be seen as the camera is picked up and moved, the footage is shaky and obscured until the movement stops. The screen now shows a different room. A woman hovers in front of the camera shaking her head. “I am so sick of the fighting. That’s all they do, they argue and they yell until they can’t anymore. Then, when they run out of breath, they do stupid shit. Austin stole Sampson’s book, that’s why they’re fighting right now.”
The woman looks around and stops to focus on the ceiling. She takes a deep breath and sighs. A man comes into view of the camera.
“You okay in here? I saw you leave and I thought I should check in.”
The woman smiles and nods, “Yeah, I’m okay Mikey. Just wanted to try to get some peace and quiet. They’ve been arguing constantly lately, and I think Vic just realized Austin stole her book.”
“Serves her right, she took his pen.” The man laughs slightly. “You recording?”
“I realized I haven’t made one yet so why not. You wanna join?”
The two can be seen smiling as the camera is moved into position. The date is said to be January 17, and the time 16:22. They debate whether or not the Captain will be able to calm the situation off camera down, both of them deciding that he would be better suited to try than they are. The room behind them is filled with important looking pieces of tech. Cables and pipes line the parts of the walls not already covered in what looks to be electrical boxes. The man and woman are wearing identical white suits with sleeves covered in patches. Something about them feels almost futuristic.
