The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
there is none who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.
3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
4 Have they no knowledge,…

Why does he get asked all these strange, very specific questions?
“If I really had to choose… The Princess and the Pea, I suppose. Nobody gets locked in towers or dungeons, nobody gets married off to some prince or beast in a faraway kingdom that they hate, nobody gets cursed or lose their heads. It’s all rather benign.
"Plus, twenty mattresses. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it? I wonder what it feels like to sleep on that many mattresses.” @antioceas

There are few comedians as beloved and timeless as Rodney Dangerfield. A man who’s sharp wit and timing influenced a generation of comics. It’s been over 20 years since his passing, yet he’s still a regular topic amongst comedians when they discuss their favorites. Let’s dive into what makes him so great, and just how he was able to resonate so well with the general public.
His tombstone reads: “there goes the neighborhood”
[[MORE]]Rodney grew up in my neighborhood and we have a memorial here dedicated to him. To this day I’ve never seen another comedian with timing as lethal as his. He was a true working-class hero and a reminder that it’s never to late to pursue what you love.
When he was shooting his first movie Caddyshack, he became very insecure and thought he was bombing because nobody was laughing at his one-liners. It took the director assuring him that he was killing it and everybody on set was doing everything they could to not laugh because it would ruin the take. He then put in one of the all time great comedic performances in film history and his star was born.
Jack Roy, better known by the stage name Rodney Dangerfield, was an American stand-up comedian, actor, screenwriter, and producer. He was known for his self-deprecating one-liner humor, his catchphrase “I don’t get no respect!”, and his monologues on that theme.
Born November 22, 1921, Deer Park, New York, United States
Died October 5, 2004 (age 82 years), Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, United States
Spouse Joan Child (1993–04), Joyce Indig (1963–70), Joyce Indig (1951–61)
Children Brian Roy, Melanie Roy-Friedman
Full name Jacob Cohen
Parents Phil Roy, Dotty Teitelbaum
My favorite Rodney story is after his appearance on Carson he went back to his day job of selling aluminum siding and the people recognized him like “didn’t I see you on Carson last night” and he basically said “yeah, so you wanna buy the siding.” No respect man I tell ya 😂
“I went to see my doctor, Dr. Vinnie Boombotz– he tells me I have a terminal disease…‘How long till the end?’ He says 'If you’re lucky, one year. If WE’RE lucky, a lot sooner…Hey, NO RESPECT!”
you do in 10min what other character studies can’t get done in an hour, another banger.
I’ve always appreciated comedians that master self deprecating humor, because telling jokes at your own expense is a lot braver and requires a lot more humility than just poking fun at others. It’s very disarming as well, because when a comedian is willing to laugh at themselves and make themselves the butt of the joke then you as the audience feel more connected to them.
I remember Rodney in Natural Born Killers. He was extremely creepy and unsettling, he did a very good job. Only time he never made me laugh.
Your point about “comics were supposed to be the punching bags” summarises an interesting difference between British and American comics. Like Norm pointed out a lot American comics want to be the coolest smartest guy in the room so much that the funny aspect is really secondary. Being comfortable with yourself being the punchline is so much more ingrained in British comics, its why comedy shows like Taskmaster work so well, you can’t be the cool mysterious type when you’ve just been challenged to peel an Egg with oven mitts.
Dangerfield was a precision joke writer, a minimalist. Legend is the right word.
The day Rodney Dangerfield passed, that was a quiet day in my life. He was a man that made funny a lot of the very real, very dark parts of my childhood. He was just so lovable, but I always related to his sorrow. I didn’t know about his childhood until I was an adult. Miss you, Buddy. You got me through a lot, and I never got to tell you.
1:44 Howard is such a little weasel. The man sings beautifully and he cuts him off.
That little snarky remark by his co-host regarding his dad probably hurt him as well, which is why I left it in. Not exactly class when it comes to being considerate
Howard Allan Stern is an American broadcaster, comedian, and media personality. He is best known for his radio show, The Howard Stern Show, which gained popularity when it was nationally syndicated on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2005. He has broadcast on SiriusXM since 2006
Not only was Rodney Dangerfield an incredible talent, he was also generous to other comics and performers. If it wasn’t for Dangerfield’s various specials, we wouldn’t have folks like Andrew Dice Clay, Jim Carrey, or Pinky and The Brain voice actor Maurice LaMarche.
