Nearly every part of the United States is getting walloped by wild weather or just about to be.

Days of downpours have begun in Hawaii. The Southwest will soon bake with day after day of record 100-degree-plus (38 Celsius-plus) heat. Two storms will dump snow by the foot over northern Great Lakes states. And the dreaded polar vortex will again invade the Midwest and East with soul-crushing Arctic chill.

This forecast of extremes comes as weather whiplash has already hit much of the East. On Wednesday, Washington, D.C., residents walked around in shorts in record-breaking 86 degrees Fahrenheit (about 30 C). On Thursday, it snowed.

“All of the country, even if you’re not necessarily seeing extremes, are going to see generally changing from cold to warm, or warm to cold to warm,” said meteorologist Marc Chenard of the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center in Maryland.

Former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration chief scientist Ryan Maue said he expects extreme weather in all 50 states.

A Bad Storm And Flood And Checking The Library Servers For Damage

File:Urban flood cropped.jpg

I had a dream that there was a bad storm with lots of rain et cetera.

We woke up the next day at a fictional version of my parents house.

And there was still some water flooding some parts of the city.

My library supervisor Ms. JR and I went to the library to make sure that the servers were not damaged from the flood.

Surprisingly they seemed to be…

Optimizing mannings roughness coefficient for hydraulic modelling: An application for Pinacanauan De Tuguegarao watershed, Philippines

Abstract

Flooding poses a significant threat to Pinacanauan de Tuguegarao watershed, with increasing frequency of occurrences prompting the urgent need for enhanced flood forecasting through model calibration and validation. The city’s most severe flood event was recorded during Typhoon Ulysses, which served as the basis for calibrating the hydrologic and hydraulic models of the Pinacanauan de…

Living on the Taratahi alluvial plain in Wairarapa flooding is frequent. The original bush was cut down in the 1880s and the swamps cleared but heavy rain in the valley and the steep Tararua mountains overwhelms the drainage given the flatness of the land. Flood protection now covers the towns but not agricultural properties such as TeePee Cider on the rural land. The original settlers were canny. The farm houses are on slightly h land. Just a few feet makes a di given the flooding although extensive in only shallow. Given the land is slits and gravels it soaks away quickly. As these photos from 1920 and 2018 of the same spot close to the orchard show not much has changed! The rivers regularly need gravel extraction to stop them ‘ silting up’ due to the minimal geadient especially at obstructions such as culverts. #Wairarapa #Flooding #Floodplain.

I am glad our house is not in danger of flooding but my poor garden is being hammered. I want/need to get out there and start sowing seeds. Unfortunately, the water is too deep for me to get to my greenhouse (even wearing wellingtons). The pictures are not doing justice to the depth of the water.
