Ok so I decided to pick up Manisc mode (this is an English patched Japanese version) a few days ago and let me tell you…
So, for those unaware, in the Japanese version you can guarantee crits by lowering the crit to -1. The game however jumps to the highest value (255), guaranteeing a crit with every attack. This has been patched in other releases of the game.

okay NOA localization team did just a stellar job with fe9. some of these are straight up genius. i’ve been collecting them but as a gorgeous example, let me share this ranulf line (to ike):

like okay yes, this is mean. and by god NOA rises to the occasion:

and can i say, that alone would be enough, that is a hilarious and loyal translation. but SOMEONE on that localization team in 2005 sat down to this line and said, you know what, no, this is not petty enough. make ranulf pettier. and then they ADDED:
“has he snapped yet? he seems high-strung.”
HELLO?????????? how could you possibly interpret this if not as jealousy?! who was pushing their glorious ike/ranulf agenda here!!? i just adore it. let the translators off the LEASH!!
