Mid-Week Muddle
The latest in a long series of foggy days arrived with a morning low of 28 degrees, and the day never heated up beyond 42, despite the eventual appearance of a bit of sunshine and blue sky. The forecast does not offer much different in the near future.
My blood sugar jumped up to 197 this morning, for some reason that we have not been able to determine, beyond something evidently not terribly healthy in my daily selection of food, even though we are sticking close to the kinds of things that brought it down in the first place.
After our coffee and online brain games this morning, we got dressed and took off for Nancy’s appointment with the eye doctor. But she failed to double check the location of the appointment, and we had to run from the Springfield office over to the one in Eugene. Fortunately, she got checked in and managed to get the check-up done despite our tardiness.
Once the appointment was done, we stopped for a late breakfast at Addi’s, in downtown Springfield. I enjoyed a nice meal of chicken-fried steak and eggs, along with hashbrowns and one piece of wheat toast. I brought the other three pieces home with me. Nancy had sausage links, scrambled eggs, and an English muffin.
Because her eyes had been dilated for the appointment and Nancy did not take sunglasses with her, we came straight home, and she lay down with an eye pillow to cut down on the glare she was experiencing. I joined her briefly.
I did have a short conversation with Bruce, from Tucson, about some aspects of streaming church services. But I need to include the St. Thomas parish administrator and my streaming buddy here in the planning, so it will take a little while longer before we can work out the details of adding YouTube to our schedule.
When Nancy’s eyes finally adjusted properly, we went out and dropped a couple of bags of old clothes at St. Vinnie’s, then got a mocha from Native Coffee. Next, we ran by Jerry’s for more fatwood and stopped at the nearby insurance office to give them a change of address. We also briefly discussed proper insurance for the new place, which will need to be talked about with Kalen.
After that, we went by 8th Street, where most of the painting was done and preparations were being made for getting the flooring in place next. Then we hit Albertsons for spinach, cold brew, eggs, and more firewood, before going home.
We were going to swing by the Post Office in Springfield to do a change of address for our move, but it was suggested we could do that online. Once we got home and I checked into it, though, the idea of stopping by the Post Office made much more sense.
I finally finished the very last DCI Banks book, then I fell asleep on the couch. When I awoke, Nancy had her glass of wine in hand. When she was done, she began getting dinner ready. She was heating up leftover meatloaf, sautéing a batch of spinach, and boiling potatoes, which I proceeded to mash once they were done.
Following dinner and clean-up, we turned to the evening’s streaming entertainment, starting with the latest “High Potential,” followed by “Will Trent,” and closing out with “Best Medicine.” All three programs had bits and pieces that proved to be very annoying, and I would have been happy to fall asleep on the couch once again.
Tonight’s low will drop below freezing again, and tomorrow’s high might approach the mid-40s again. That could change, of course, although it is not likely to, given the chance of another foggy night and morning.
The first thing on the schedule for tomorrow is another appointment at the vet for Grace. I might get out to my recovery meeting in the evening, but that depends on what else comes along during the day.
