Today is the best I’ve felt in days.

No regrets in taking today off.

Only downside right now is that I am sore from being in bed so much the past few days. Idk about anyone else, but my body rejects being in bed too long, otherwise I start getting achy. Specifically, my lower back is hurting me.

I wish I had the luxury of just staying at home with my husband and pets. Obviously, I don’t. Even though we’ve just been doing chores for the most part today, I feel good, and productive and glad to spend that unplanned time with my hubby and pets.

I’ve run some errands that I wouldn’t normally have a chance to get to.

Now, I get to figure out what it is exactly that I’m doing at work tomorrow. Anxiety isn’t the right word. I guess I’m feeling avoidance? I don’t want to do my job… I feel a little lost when it comes to my job duties and I fear getting ripped apart from my boss. If it weren’t for that, I think I would be a lot more ok with my job than I am…

Publishing My Zine

It was wet and overcast again this morning and cloudiness expected for the remainder of the day. More rain is likely in the early morning tomorrow and then, possibly, continuing for at least a couple more days. Last night’s low was 43 degrees, and the high somehow reached 56 without any evidence of sunshine.

My blood sugar dropped a tiny bit, to 211. This was most likely due to the limited amount of food I ingested yesterday, none of which included protein.

Following our coffee and online brain games, Nancy and I fixed breakfast with cheesy eggs and garlic, bacon, and toast with jam. We cooked up a batch of bacon in the oven, so we have a few slices leftover for next time.

After breakfast and clean-up, we went out by the Mini Pet Mall for more kitty food, then stopped by the vet for one of Grace’s meds, but it wasn’t ready. Then we went by Native Coffee on 42nd Street for a mocha, after which we went to CVS on Marcola Road to get Nancy’s meds. They were ready.

Instead of going directly home, we decided to go find the place that Deborah rented for their visit. It’s in the southern part of Eugene, but still only about 20 minutes from our new place. Though they won’t spend a lot of time here, since Sarah is allergic to cats.

When we got home, I got Nancy to proofread the new BudZine, and when she was done, I went ahead and posted the issue online and on FB as well. By the end of the day there were several likes and a couple of comments.

While I was putting all the zine stuff together, Nancy had started another load of laundry, and, unfortunately, when it hit the spin cycle, it started bouncing around the pantry again. We stopped it and put the load in the dryer. I got a referral from a friend for someone who might be able to solve the washer problem for us. I will follow up tomorrow.

I went out for another walk around different areas of our new neighborhood. I walked 2.28 miles in just under 46 minutes, a total of 4,200 steps. I wound up going past the Rooster coffee shop, but I had forgotten to bring any cash with me, so I had to pass.

When I got home, Nancy had started a pot of rice to go with the orange chicken for dinner. After having her glass of wine, and me doing lap time, we began preparations for the rest of the meal. I got the green beans ready for steaming, and Nancy put the orange chicken in the oven. After 20 minutes, we stirred the chicken in the orange sauce, then served up everything and enjoyed a tasty dinner.

After cleaning up, we began our streaming entertainment for the evening. We started with Colbert’s show from last night, which featured Michelle Pfeiffer and musician Dave Matthews. Then we watched the latest episodes of “High Potential” and “Will Trent.”

Rainy conditions are expected tomorrow, starting around 4 a.m. and continuing through 1 p.m. The low tonight will be around 49 degrees, and tomorrow’s high just 57.

Given the weather forecast, chances are that Nancy and I will spend most of the day in the house. We might be able to arrange for someone to check our washer, and in the evening, when the rain might be gone, I may head to the Thursday evening recovery group. Otherwise, we will simply enjoy our new home.

“Went on errands with Dave today. A ton of errands. And I wasn’t bored!”

“Because…”

“We pretended we were on The Amazing Race and each stop was a challenge and a puzzle.”

“We ran into detours and roadblocks and ultimately prevailed! WE ARE WINNERS!”

“Pretty sure we broke a record for the fastest errand run ever.”

Mid-Week Muddle

The latest in a long series of foggy days arrived with a morning low of 28 degrees, and the day never heated up beyond 42, despite the eventual appearance of a bit of sunshine and blue sky. The forecast does not offer much different in the near future.

My blood sugar jumped up to 197 this morning, for some reason that we have not been able to determine, beyond something evidently not terribly healthy in my daily selection of food, even though we are sticking close to the kinds of things that brought it down in the first place.

After our coffee and online brain games this morning, we got dressed and took off for Nancy’s appointment with the eye doctor. But she failed to double check the location of the appointment, and we had to run from the Springfield office over to the one in Eugene. Fortunately, she got checked in and managed to get the check-up done despite our tardiness.

Once the appointment was done, we stopped for a late breakfast at Addi’s, in downtown Springfield. I enjoyed a nice meal of chicken-fried steak and eggs, along with hashbrowns and one piece of wheat toast. I brought the other three pieces home with me. Nancy had sausage links, scrambled eggs, and an English muffin.

Because her eyes had been dilated for the appointment and Nancy did not take sunglasses with her, we came straight home, and she lay down with an eye pillow to cut down on the glare she was experiencing. I joined her briefly.

I did have a short conversation with Bruce, from Tucson, about some aspects of streaming church services. But I need to include the St. Thomas parish administrator and my streaming buddy here in the planning, so it will take a little while longer before we can work out the details of adding YouTube to our schedule.

When Nancy’s eyes finally adjusted properly, we went out and dropped a couple of bags of old clothes at St. Vinnie’s, then got a mocha from Native Coffee. Next, we ran by Jerry’s for more fatwood and stopped at the nearby insurance office to give them a change of address. We also briefly discussed proper insurance for the new place, which will need to be talked about with Kalen.

After that, we went by 8th Street, where most of the painting was done and preparations were being made for getting the flooring in place next. Then we hit Albertsons for spinach, cold brew, eggs, and more firewood, before going home.

We were going to swing by the Post Office in Springfield to do a change of address for our move, but it was suggested we could do that online. Once we got home and I checked into it, though, the idea of stopping by the Post Office made much more sense.

I finally finished the very last DCI Banks book, then I fell asleep on the couch. When I awoke, Nancy had her glass of wine in hand. When she was done, she began getting dinner ready. She was heating up leftover meatloaf, sautéing a batch of spinach, and boiling potatoes, which I proceeded to mash once they were done.

Following dinner and clean-up, we turned to the evening’s streaming entertainment, starting with the latest “High Potential,” followed by “Will Trent,” and closing out with “Best Medicine.” All three programs had bits and pieces that proved to be very annoying, and I would have been happy to fall asleep on the couch once again.

Tonight’s low will drop below freezing again, and tomorrow’s high might approach the mid-40s again. That could change, of course, although it is not likely to, given the chance of another foggy night and morning.

The first thing on the schedule for tomorrow is another appointment at the vet for Grace. I might get out to my recovery meeting in the evening, but that depends on what else comes along during the day.

Gratitude Journal

Yesterday at work was BONKERS busy again, but we did find 5 minutes to do our little work Secret Santa, and it was so much fun! I kicked off the festivities by saying “Let’s Secret Santa this bitch!” and everyone laughed. There was a profusion of snacks, sweets, and energy drinks, but also video game gift cards and in my case, I got some lovely flowers (and Coke and Twix):

(Turns out while I got Oliver’s name, he got mine lol.)

The current work crew actually feels like a good community, for the most part. We have fun with each other and a lot of the gifts showed how well we know each other.

Today I have been very productive despite being tired from work, and managed to go to three locations (physical therapy, the pharmacy, a restaurant to pick up a cake) without actually collapsing. Indeed, I opposite-of-collapsed, I took the dog for a walk!

And speaking of, he was so PATIENT today. The clothes I wear to PT are the same clothes I wear when taking him for walks, but when I told him it wasn’t happening he calmed down and didn’t get in my way as I was putting on my shoes, and he patiently waited while I ran another errand. After dropping a couple things back home. I was so pleased with that sweet boy that I ended up singing him a song on our walk, which both amused me and caused him to look up at me with his adorable grin.

Here he is resting because it’s 77° fucking degrees outside this Christmas Eve and he’s a big boy who runs hot.

And my sister texted me a sweet picture of me and my niece from when she was a toddler, and I was overwhelmed with love and joy.

A much longer day than expected

First up, the cuteness. I actually got this photo, yesterday. I wanted to get a good photo of Kohl for the rescue, as they will be taking her in and getting her ready for adoption, later this month.
